The third developer beta of iOS 13 includes a new feature that allows you to stare directly at the front camera while talking on the FaceTime, even if you are far away from the people on the screen. The feature found on Twitter, Mike Rundle, seems to use this beta version only on iPhone XS and XS Max, and can be turned on and off in the FaceTime setting.

Usually, a video call allows both participants to see one side or the other because they are looking at the person on the monitor rather than directly looking at the camera in front of them. However, the new FaceTime attention Correction feature seems to use some kind of image processing to correct this, which leads to false eye contact between FaceTime users. Coincidentally, Rundle himself thought in 2017 that Apple would do this one day, though not soon.

On Twitter, Dave Shujin explained that ARKit can achieve the effect, and ARKit is used to map users' faces and adjust their eyes accordingly. Kim Sook wears a pair of glasses on her arm, showing how the software slightly distorts the eye area to achieve the effect. Wearing sunglasses will have the same effect.

It is not clear which devices the feature will eventually use, or whether it supports group calls. We also want to know if it works when there are a lot of people in the framework, because you gather the whole family around a device until FaceTime is a distant relative. The feature will be tested by the public next week.
