AWS announced an example of its next-generation GPU. The P4D instance was launched nearly a decade after AWS first launched its cluster GPU instance (launched at the end of 2010) and promised better performance at a lower cost.

"Today, I would like to introduce to you an example of a new P4 with GPU," said Jeff Barr, chief missionary of AWS. These instances are supported by the latest Intel Cascade Lake processors and have eight of the latest NVIDIA A100 TensorCore GPUs, each GPU connected to all other GPU via NVLink and supporting NVIDIA GPUDirect. Compared to P3 instances, these instances have 2.5 PetaFLOPS floating-point performance and 320 GB of high-bandwidth GPU memory, providing up to 2.5 times deep learning performance and reducing training costs by up to 60 percent. "

The new instance has 1.1 TB of system memory and 8 TB of solid-state storage. They are also equipped with four 100 Gbps network connections, 320 GB of high-bandwidth GPU memory, and an on-demand price of $32.77 per hour.

For large enterprises, you can create an on-demand EC2 super cluster by combining 4000 or more GPUs. These will enable enterprises to use supercomputer-scale machine learning and high-performance computing solutions, including financial modeling, natural language processing, and other forms of in-depth analysis.

Regardless of the size of the organization, new P4d instances should help enterprises solve the biggest machine learning challenges and significantly reduce costs. Multi-node distributed training is also expected to save working time and provide more managed services, thereby increasing productivity.

As machine learning becomes more and more popular in a variety of industries, a variety of companies may be interested in AWS's new GPU instance whether or not it uses the company's previous instance.
