Datapatch determines the required application/rollback operation by matching an internal repository with the patch inventory. Datapatch resides in the opatch directory, the $ORACLE_HOME/OPatch folder.

Opatchauto

OPatchAuto automatically calls datapatch to complete the binary patch installation and restart the post patch operation.

Enterprise Manager Cloud Control

Starting with version 12.1, EMCC now calls datapatch to perform post patch operations after any 12c or later database restart

upgrade

Catctl.pl and DBUA now invoke Datapatch during upgrade

OPatch

Integration of Datapatch with OPatch is impossible. Because OPatch executes when the database is closed, datapatch requires that the database be open to complete its activity.

SQL Patch Registry table

This table contains information about which SQL patches have been applied and/or rolled back to a given database. Each database has a SQL patch registry, so if you run multiple databases in the same Oracle home, each database has its own SQL patch registry.

To check datapatch entries in the registry, type the following command from an SQL prompt:

SELECT PATCH_ID, VERSION, ACTION, STATUS, ACTION_TIME FROM DBA_REGISTRY_SQLPATCH;

Database 12.1.0.2 feature enhancements

The following enhancements were introduced in Database 12c Patch Set 12.1.0.2:

dba_registry_history is no longer used as patch information

datapatch -rollbackall option is available to roll back all currently installed SQL patches

Catbundle is integrated into datapatch
