Shulou(Shulou.com)06/01 Report--
This article mainly explains "how to install ubuntu using USB disk". Interested friends may wish to have a look. The method introduced in this paper is simple, fast and practical. Let's let the editor take you to learn "how to install ubuntu using USB flash drive".
Recently often see a lot of people in the installation of Ubuntu, so also want to install Ubuntu, it is simple to say, but in practice it is a bit troublesome, looking for several ways to install Ubuntu, the following is the way to install ubuntu server edition with USB disk, hope that you can learn to install ubuntu on USB disk, this method should be suitable for all ubuntu versions.
All of the following operations are done under ubuntu, and other linux systems should be similar.
* step: download the required files
To install ubuntu server edition, of course, there is no iso file. You can download the iso file at the following address. I downloaded ubuntu-server-i386.iso.
Of course, if only this iso file is not good, you need to download two additional files, initrd.gz and vmlinuz, to boot the entire installation process after the USB disk starts. The download address is:
Http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/feisty/main/installer-i386/current//images/hd-media/vmlinuz
In fact, these two files are also included in the iso file, as long as you unlock the iso file, there will be this file in the install subdirectory, as for which way, it really depends on your convenience.
Step 2: format the flash drive
Before the whole operation, I need to format the USB flash drive into some kind of file system, and I format it into the fat file system, which is done as follows under ubuntu:
Insert the flash drive into the mainframe. If the system automatically loads the flash drive, use the umount command to mount it, sudo umount / dev/sdb (please use fdisk-l to get the letter of your flash drive, the same below, mine is / dev/sdb)
Then format it, using the following command:
Sudo mkdosfs-I / dev/sdb
Step 3: copy the file
First load the formatted USB drive into the file system as follows: sudo mount / dev/sdb / media/liveusb (if liveusb does not exist, create a new one, or use another directory).
Then copy the file downloaded in step * * to the root directory of U disk:
Cp initrd.gz / media/liveusb cp vmlinuz / media/liveusb cp ubuntu-server-i386.iso / media/liveusb/in.iso (renamed here, but the name is shortened and can be changed to another name)
When finished, mount it (sudo umount / dev/sdb) to proceed to the next step
Step 4: make a boot flash drive
Before making the boot flash drive, please make sure that both syslinux and mtools are installed, otherwise you can't complete this process. The installation of these two tools is very simple, sudo apt-get install syslinux mtools is fine.
Enter the command sudo syslinux / dev/sdb. Please note that the flash drive letter is correct, and make sure that the flash drive is not loaded into the system when executing the command. After loading the USB disk into the system, sudo amount / dev/sdb/ media/liveusb/, will find that there is an extra file ldlinux.sys on the USB disk, which is automatically generated by running syslinux, and we don't have to make any changes to it here.
Step 5: add a profile
After loading the flash drive, enter the location of the flash drive, cd / media/liveusb. Create a new syslinux configuration file named syslinux.cfg, with the command touch syslinux.cfg and change the content to the bottom with vi or gedit:
DISPLAY title.txt LABEL linux kernel vmlinuz append initrdinitrd=initrd.gz ramdisk_size=10240
The title.txt above is another file in the root directory of the U drive. You can create it yourself and write down the prompt at boot time. When booting, it reads the contents by file name and displays them.
Kernel vmlinuz says here that the image file is vmlinuz.
Append initrd=initrd.gz ramdisk_size=10240 what matters here is initrd=initrd.gz, and ramdisk_size=10240 refers specifically to the size of the virtual disk during boot and installation. There are many parameters that can be set, and if there is no special need, these two will be fine.
Thus, the files under / media/liveusb should be as follows:
Linyongting@linyongting:/media/disk$ ll
In this way, you can make a U disk that can boot and install Ubuntu server edition, enter the USB interface, and set the * * boot disk in bois to USB-ZIP.
At this point, I believe you have a deeper understanding of "the method of using USB disk to install ubuntu". You might as well do it in practice. Here is the website, more related content can enter the relevant channels to inquire, follow us, continue to learn!
