There are relevant standards for the construction and evaluation of the data center computer room, such as the national standard or the UPTIME certification standard recognized by most people in the industry, but there is no recognized standard for the certification and classification of the green computer room.

Now, one of the more recognized indicators in the industry is PUE. The lower the PUE value, the better the energy efficiency of the computer room. However, RogerTipley, vice president of the green grid (TheGreenGrid, referred to as TGG) organization, said that the lower the PUE value, the better. Generally speaking, it is ideal to keep the PUE value between 1.2 and 1.5.

No measure, no right to speak.

The development of green data center affects all aspects from government to manufacturers and enterprise users. In order to promote the rational layout and healthy development of China's data centers, especially large-scale data centers, in January 2013, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and other five major ministries jointly issued the "opinions on some guidance on the layout of data Center Construction", which made it clear that the division of the scale of data centers and the PUE of new data centers should be less than 1.5. In addition, the Telecommunications Research Institute of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, as the main drafting unit, has successively issued four standards, including the Internet data Center Technology and Classification Standard, which has effectively promoted the standardized development of our green data center.

TGG, which aims to become a global authority on data center resource efficiency and enterprise computing ecosystem, has made a lot of efforts over the years in setting standards and providing evaluation tools for green data centers. "TGG members have worked together to develop a series of standards to help corporate users around the world improve the resource efficiency of their data centers," RogerTipley said at the first Green Grid Summit Forum in China. "the standards we have developed include power use efficiency, carbon use efficiency (CUE) and water use efficiency (WUE), and more are in the process of being developed." The power of example

In 2011, the Cloud Computing Development and Policy Forum was jointly launched by 17 units, including the Telecommunications Research Institute of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom. The forum set up a review team to conduct on-site evaluation of six unsolicited data centers, including China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom, Baidu, Tencent and Alibaba from 2012 to 2013. The evaluation results show that the Baidu M1 data center has the best PUE value, which, together with Tencent Tianjin data Center, China Telecom Yongfeng International data Center and Alibaba Hangzhou Dongguan data Center, are all rated as 4A data centers. For example, unit 303 of Tencent Tianjin data Center applies a number of energy-saving technologies, such as hot and cold channel isolation, water-side natural cooling, natural air cooling, frequency conversion technology, time-sharing refrigeration and so on, with an annual PUE of 1.42.

He Baohong suggested that enterprises should pay attention to the following two aspects when building data centers: first, the planning and construction of data centers should be linked to the business goals of enterprises; second, enterprises should continue to innovate in improving the efficiency of data center resources. Enterprises should pay attention to the cost of the whole life cycle of the data center, and link the energy efficiency of the data center with the business profit, operational risk, social responsibility and so on.

Take eBay as an example, it evaluates the costs and benefits of each online auction with water, electricity and related energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions, providing a basis for business optimization.

TGG's data center maturity model provides users with a tool that allows business operators to determine the maturity of the data center and clarify how the data center and IT strategy should be continuously improved and innovated to achieve higher energy efficiency while promoting the development of the enterprise business.

"our goal is to develop new rules of the game for a green data center market, promote the use of efficient data centers and reduce the overall cost of ownership of data centers," RogerTipley said.
