7.18.2 regular expression version of strip ()

Write a function that takes a string and does the same thing as the strip () string method. If only the string to be removed is passed in and there are no other parameters, the white space character is removed from the beginning and end of the string. Otherwise, the character specified in the second argument of the function is removed from the string.

I understand that the meaning of this question is to let students use .sub () to remove white space characters or regular expressions for specified characters (including white space characters).
