Australia's AIA Health says that after giving Apple Watch to people who achieve certain fitness goals, their users' activity has increased by an average of 35 per cent.

In 2020, AIA Health Insurance Company introduced Apple Watch into its Vitality program. Members who choose to register will receive a free Apple Watch as long as they continue to meet the specific health goals set for them.

"when comparing physical activity in 2019 and 2020, we saw an average 35 per cent year-on-year increase in activity for Apple Watch Benefit users of AIA Vitality last year," AIA said in a new report. "the most significant improvement in physical activity is among people aged 50 and older, who are growing at an annual rate of 51 per cent."

"the rich health and well-being insight gained by Apple Watch users combined with the 'loss aversion' behavioural principle built into AIA Vitality benefits has led to a significant increase in the level of activity," the company said.

AIA examined the results of its 1198 members. In order to make the results comparable, respondents must choose to join the Apple Watch program and be full members of AIA during 2019.
