A new Sony controller patent has been discovered.

This patent is a wireless charging accessory and its appearance is very similar to the rear button accessory of DualShock 4.

It is not clear whether the device will eventually evolve into a "back button accessory" or for PlayStation 5.

In the past few weeks, many possible patents for the design of PlayStation 5 controllers have been discovered, as well as other patents. The patent, which first appeared on Reddit, details the wireless charging devices that can be connected to the back of the PlayStation controller. You can see some charts and pictures in the patent below.

Interestingly, this accessory looks quite familiar with DualShock 4 Back Button accessories. A number of other controller patents have also been found, one of which shows a design for reading biometric data. None of these mention the function of the PlayStation 5 controller, which is almost certainly the so-called DualShock 5.

Sony has confirmed that the next controller will have a USB-C charging function, which will have a larger battery capacity than the DualShock 4. After providing details in an interview with Wired in 2019, Sony remained silent, showing only PlayStation's landing page 5 and logo. PlayStation 5 is still scheduled to be released sometime during the 2020 holiday. The only known release game name is Godfall.
