Shulou(Shulou.com)06/02 Report--

Recently, in the process of using linux, we need to establish a shared folder between the host operating system and the guest operating system. We have encountered some problems. After referring to many articles and various attempts on the Internet, we have been able to solve them as follows.

1. System environment:

Host operating system: Windows 7 64-bit.

Guest operating system: Ubuntu 14.04 32-bit.

Virtual machine software: VMware Workstation 14 pro.

2. Establishment of shared folders:

As with most methods on the Internet, to use VMware shared folders to create shared files, you must first shut down the guest operating system.

Then click the menu of VMware software and go to Virtual Machine-> Settings-> options-> shared folder.

Select always enable on the right, then add the folder you want to share, and then make sure. There is nothing to say here, the operation here is very simple, and there are a lot of tutorials on the Internet. The attached pictures are as follows:

After setting up, we open the guest operating system, namely ubuntu 14.04. Using the cd / mnt/hgfs command, you were prompted that the file or folder was not found.

3. Is there no hgfs folder under the / mnt folder?

After setting up step 2, I found that there is no so-called / hgfs folder in the / mnt folder of the system. Don't panic, take your time. Is there a system? We'll create one ourselves. After switching to the / mnt folder (cd / mnt), sudo mkdir hgfs (if you mkdir hgfs directly under the superuser, I will not explain below), so the / hgfs folder is created under the / mnt folder. After cd / hgfs, I found that there is still no shared folder that we set up in step 2. Many articles on the reference network have found that the folder needs to be mounted on the system first.

Mount operation:

(1) first, make sure that the VMware Tools and shared directory settings have been completed.

Enter: sudo vmware-hgfsclientc under the terminal.

You can see the folder set in step 2. Step 2 is set successfully, buddy. If it is not successful, please reset it.

(2) for mount operation, please refer to the following URL:

I won't plagiarize, buddy.

The next steps are as follows:

I tried the first method, after mount-t vmhgfs. Host: / / mnt/hgfs, prompt: cannot mount filesystem:no such device. It means that there is no mount device (if the execution is successful, check to see if there is a shared folder under / mnt/hgfs. If the execution is not successful, please read on). After referring to many old iron articles and various attempts, it is found that open-vm-dkms is the earlier software, and now the new software is open-vm-tools-dkms, that is, the second method above, execute apt-get install open-vm-tools-dkms and install the software. Because my system has been updated after installation, all of them are the latest version, so I don't have to install it again. Then execute the mount command: vmhgfs-fuse. Host: / / mnt/hgfs. To mount. System prompt: vmhgfs-fuse: this command was not found. (if the execution is successful, you can check it at / mnt/hgfs, which should be ready to display to the shared folder.)

4. Vmhgfs-fuse: can't find the command?

See an old friend's article, said to go to / bin/ to execute, the execution is not successful, switch to the / bin directory, did not see the vmhgfs-fuse command. If the web page is not saved, the URL will not be posted in this post.

Then refer to many articles and try the following, as shown in the figure:

The picture shown in the figure comes from:

None of the above attempts was successful. I guess, maybe VMware tools is not installed correctly? Then reinstall the VMware tools.

Refer to the following website:

Instead of uninstalling the original VMware tools tool, I started directly from the third step of the URL.

In step 5, there is no VMware Tools folder under my system cd / cdrom/. I directly use the graphical interface to copy the package to other folders on the system and copy it to the root directory.

After installing VMware Tools, execute the mount command in step 3 again: vmhgfs-fuse. Host: / / mnt/hgfs. At this point, the execution is successful! Switch to / mnt/hgfs and execute the ls command, and you can see the shared folder.

5. Note: after the mount command here is executed successfully, the shared folder can only be seen during the operation of the system. If you want to mount automatically every time the system is booted, please refer to the articles of the old people online to set them up. The articles I shared above are also explained. However, my system is not configured to see the shared folder the next time I restart. Don't set it up in a hurry, it is easy to make mistakes and cause system problems. I just suffered a little bit, .
