About Ubuntu 18.04 what are the common questions, many novices are not very clear about this, in order to help you solve this problem, the following editor will explain for you in detail, people with this need can come to learn, hope you can gain something.

Version 18.04 of Ubuntu has arrived. I can see a lot of questions from Ubuntu users in various Facebook groups and forums. I also organized QQ meetings on Facebook and Instagram to find out what Ubuntu users think about Ubuntu 18.04.

I'm trying to answer frequently asked questions about Ubuntu 18.04 here.

What's to look forward to in Ubuntu 18.04

To explain, some of the questions and answers here will be influenced by me personally. If you are an experienced or Ubuntu-savvy user, some of these questions may be simple for you. If this is the case, please ignore these problems.

Can I install Unity in Ubuntu 18.04?

Of course you can!

Canonical knows that some people like Unity. That's why it already provides Unity 7 in the Universe software library. But this is a community maintenance version, and officials are not directly involved in the development.

However, I recommend using the default GNOME, unless you really can't stand it, and then install Unity on Ubuntu 18.04.

What is the version of GNOME?

In this release of Ubuntu 18.04, the GNOME version number is 3.28.

Can I install the original GNOME?

Of course! no problem!

Because there are some GNOME users who may not like the Unity style in Ubuntu 18.04. The main and universe software libraries in Ubuntu have installation packages that enable you to install the original GNOME in Ubuntu 18.04.

Has the memory leak in GNOME been fixed?

It's been repaired. The infamous memory leak in GNOME 3.28 has been fixed, and Ubuntu officials are already testing the fix.

To be clear, memory leaks are not caused by the Ubuntu system. It affects all Linux distributions that use GNOME 3.28. GNOME 3.28.1 released a new patch to fix memory leaks.

How long will Ubuntu 18.04 be supported?

This is a long-term supported (LTS) version that, like any LTS version, will be officially supported for five years. This means that Ubuntu 18.04 will have security and maintenance updates by April 2023. The same is true for all Ubuntu-based Linux distributions except Ubuntu Studio.

When was Ubuntu 18.04 released?

Ubuntu 18.04 LTS was released on April 26. All Ubuntu-based Linux distributions, such as Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Xubuntu, Budgie, MATE, etc., will release version 18.04 on the same day.

However, Ubuntu Studio will not have an 18.04 LTS version.

Can I upgrade from 16.04Compact 17.10 to Ubuntu 18.04? Can I upgrade from Ubuntu 16.04 with Unity to Ubuntu 18.04 with GNOME?

Absolutely no problem. When Ubuntu 18.04 LTS is released, you can easily upgrade to the * * version.

If you are using Ubuntu 17.10, make sure that in Software and updates-> updates, notify me when there is a new version is set to any new version.

Get notified for a new version in Ubuntu

If you are using Ubuntu 16.04, make sure that in Software and updates-> updates, notify me when there is a new version is set to long-term supported version.

Ubuntu 18.04 upgrade from Ubuntu 16.04

You should then be able to get system notifications about the new version update. After that, upgrading to Ubuntu 18.04 requires only a few mouse clicks.

Even if Ubuntu 16.04 uses Unity, you can still upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04 that uses GNOME.

What does it mean to upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04? Will I lose my data?

If you are using Ubuntu 17.10 or Ubuntu 16.04, you will be prompted to upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04. If you have no problem downloading 1.5 Gb of data from the Internet, you can upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04 in 30 minutes with just a few mouse clicks.

You do not need to reinstall the system through a USB drive. After the upgrade process is complete, you will be able to use the new version of Ubuntu.

Typically, your data, documents, etc., are secure during the upgrade process. However, backing up important documents is always a good habit.

When can I upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04?

If you are using Ubuntu 17.10 and set it correctly (the setting method is in the problem mentioned earlier), you should be notified of the upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04 within a few days of the release of Ubuntu 18.04. In order to prevent the Ubuntu server from being overloaded at the time of release, not everyone will receive an upgrade prompt on the same day.

For Ubuntu 16.04 users, it may take several weeks to receive official Ubuntu 18.04 upgrade prompts. Typically, this will be prompted after the * * release of Ubuntu 18.04.1. This version fixes the new bug found in 18.04.

If I upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04, I can downgrade to 17.10 Table16.04?

I'm sorry, I can't. Although it is easy to upgrade to the new version, there is no downgrade option. If you want to go back to Ubuntu 16.04, you have to reinstall it.

Can I use Ubuntu 18.04 on a 32-bit system?

Yes, but don't do it.

If you are already using the 32-bit version of Ubuntu 16.04 or 17.10, you can still upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04. However, you can't find a 32-bit Ubuntu 18.04 ISO image. In other words, you cannot install the 32-bit version of Ubuntu 18.04.

The good news is that other official versions such as Ubuntu MATE and Lubuntu still have their new version of 32-bit ISO images.

In any case, if you use a 32-bit system, it is likely that your computer's hardware performance is too low. It is better to use a lightweight Ubuntu MATE or Lubuntu system on such a computer.

Where can I download Ubuntu 18.04?

18.04 has been released, and you can get an ISO image of Ubuntu 18.04 from its website. You can download it either directly on the official website or by seed. Other official versions will be available for download on its official website.

Should I reinstall Ubuntu 18.04 or upgrade from 16.04 to 17.10?

If you have the opportunity to reinstall, it is recommended that you back up your data and reinstall Ubuntu 18.04.

Upgrading from the existing version to 18.04 is a convenient choice. However, as far as I am concerned, it still retains the old version of the dependency package. The reinstallation is still cleaner.

Should I install Ubuntu 16.04 or Ubuntu 18.04 for reinstallation?

If you are installing Ubuntu on your computer, try to use Ubuntu 18.04 instead of 16.04.

They are long-term supported versions and have been supported for a long time. Ubuntu 16.04 will receive maintenance and security updates until 2021, while 18.04 will be available until 2023.

However, I recommend that you use Ubuntu 18.04. Any version of LTS will get hardware update support over a period of time (two and a half years, I think). After that, it only gets maintenance updates. If you have newer hardware, you will get better support in 18.04.

In addition, many application developers will soon start paying attention to Ubuntu 18.04. The newly created PPA may only support 18.04 in a few months. So 18.04 is better than 16.04.

Install Printer-is it easier to install the scanner driver than using CLI?

I am not an expert in printers, so my opinion is based on my limited knowledge in this area. Most new printers support the IPP protocol, so they should be well supported in Ubuntu 18.04. However, I can't guarantee the older printers.

Does Ubuntu 18.04 have better support for Realtek and other WiFi adapters?

Sorry, there is no specific information about this section.

System requirements of Ubuntu 18.04?

For the default GNOME version, * you should have 4 GB of memory for normal use. It can also run using processors released in the past 8 years. But any hardware with worse performance than this is recommended to use a lightweight Linux distribution, such as Lubuntu.
