It's hard for parents to find the right way to ensure that children at home don't stick to their smartphones and tablets around the clock; smart devices are so attractive that no matter where you hide ipad, bear kids always seem to find it; even if there are software tools like Apple's Screen Time or Google's Digital Wellbeing, which can lock the screen, it takes minutes for increasingly clever children to crack them. If you set the fingerprint lock, they can turn it on with your finger while you are sleeping, and will add your own fingerprint to it! Don't ask me why I know. If you talk too much, you will cry.

Now TechDen, an Australia-based company, is launching The Den--, a hardware and software solution designed to help define the boundaries of children's use of smart devices.

The Den provides a physical way to prevent addiction for children's smartphones and tablets-a locked box. This makes it impossible for children to easily access their devices, while supporting apps allow parents to set up specific sessions for The Den to unlock and allow their children to use electronic devices within a specified period of time.

In The Den's live demonstration, there are two doors on the front of the device, which are folded when it is unlocked, with the red bear logo of TechDen on top, but the always bright LED standard is not dazzling.

The process of accessing and locking devices using The Den is simple and it will not be difficult for children to grasp the concept. Just click on the bear logo and it flashes red or green: red means that the Den is currently locked and children can't take their devices out; when the green light is green, the door will open and they can pull out their thin trays and take out their tablets or smartphones.

One of the ideal parts of the device's hardware is that it can charge smart devices at the same time. When a session ends, children can reinsert their devices and put them back in the The Den, and then lock them again until the next session.

On the software side, The Den installs an APP on smartphones and tablets, and parents can set and save the device's usage time at any time of the week. When children are playing with their phones or tablets, if the set time is approaching, they will issue a warning 10 or 5 minutes in advance to inform the children that the time is up; at the end of the conversation, both parents and their children's devices will be notified that the time is up and that it is time to return the device to The Den.

Once the device is plugged back into TheDen,APP, it automatically notifies parents that a particular device has returned to TheDen. If they do not return on time, parents will be notified that they have failed to detect the unique device.

There is also a matching APP for children called TechDen Jr. -allow them to check their remaining time and ask for more time. Parents can then approve or reject the request through their own application. The APP allows children to apply for an extension of time during each session.

Of course, with APP, parents can also set goals; for example, if you want your child to return to the device 20 times with a 5-minute overtime mark, APP will reward you accordingly.

Den is not yet available and is expected to go on sale at the end of 2018, starting at $119.
