As the name implies, the "virtual desktop" means that the desktop visited by the user is not the PC desktop in the real sense, but is connected to a desktop located in the data center in a certain way. We can operate the virtual desktop on the local PC, which is similar to the remote desktop we used to use before, except that the remote desktop used to operate the desktop on another computer through the network. Now we have direct access to a large data center to get the desktop we want to operate and use its resources.

At present, virtual desktop solutions are mainly divided into two categories: VDI and SBC (Serverd-Based Computing).

The former is to centralize all the client data operations in the server-side management, compress the video frame of the remote display result and transmit it to the client to restore the display.

The latter uniformly installs the application software on the remote server, and the user accesses and operates the server desktop and application through the session established with the server, and the sessions between different users are isolated from each other.

Cloud Desktop (or Desktop Cloud) definition: based on a unique communication protocol, the cloud desktop redirects the operating system desktop or application image to the operator through the cloud terminal.

The server in the cloud is responsible for computing and storage, and the user's desktop operating system is created as a virtual machine through virtualization technology. The terminal is only responsible for connecting the server to obtain the image of the virtual machine and operating the mouse and keyboard. Users no longer need PC, just a connected terminal, monitor, mouse and keyboard.

The core cloud desktop technology is operating system virtualization: multiple "office computers" can be run on a physical server at the same time, and traditional hardware computers are simulated as invisible running "software computers". And there is no interference with each other, can be turned on, off, use and other conventional operations

Remote Desktop: now that office computers are centrally placed on the server for software simulation, users can't be allowed to use computers around the server, can they? They have to connect to their desktops remotely through a "cloud terminal", which is often referred to as a "thin client" or "thin terminal", because it can be very small, like a set-top box, as long as it can run a small client software. connect to the user's own computer through the network, and then connect the keyboard, mouse and monitor to the cloud terminal You can work like a normal computer, then the remote connection technology here has become the key, it must be smooth and stable, so that the user experience can be good. After establishing the connection, you can't feel the difference between using ordinary hardware computers.

Cloud management platform. So many hardware computers become software computers (that is, virtual machines), which are centrally stored on one or more servers, how to create, modify and delete these virtual machines? What if there is something wrong with the server? Who will do the day-to-day management? Of course, it is the cloud management platform, which is the management system of all servers. When administrators enter this system, they can manage these virtual machines without leaving their homes. Create, configure, start, shut down, delete and monitor these virtual machines as if they were a software in the computer.

Although there are many forms and kinds of products in the current domestic cloud desktop market, the core technologies are always inescapable. For example, the technical framework of a desktop cloud is that the cloud management platform adopts the open source OpenStack cloud computing platform that has become the mainstream technology, adopts stable Linux/KVM kernel virtualization technology, and optimizes ATVP remote desktop protocol based on Spice. It can provide very mature, standard and open desktop cloud products and services for enterprises, governments, schools and other customers.
