Overview

This article provides a step-by-step procedure on how to back up an Orion database.

By default, the name of the Orion database is SolarwindsOrion, but users can change it at the beginning of the configuration through the configuration wizard during the initial installation.

Environment

NPM 12.1; NPM 12.2; NPM 12.3; NPM 12.4; NPM 12.5

Backup database

1. After connecting to the appropriate instance of the Microsoft SQL Server database engine, in object Explorer, click the server name to expand the server tree.

2. Expand the database, and select the user database or expand the system database according to the database and select the system database.

Right-click the database, point to the task, and then click backup. The backup Database dialog box appears.

4. In the database list box, verify the database name. You can choose to select another database from the list.

5. You can perform database backups for any recovery model (FULL,BULK_LOGGED or SIMPLE).

6. In the backup Type list box, select complete.

For backup components, click Database.

Accept the default backup set name recommended in the name text box, or enter a different name for the backup set.

8. Select the type of backup destination by clicking disk, tape, or URL. To select the path of up to 64 disk or tape drives that contain a single media set, click add. The selected path is displayed in the backup to list box.
