New York public transportation agency MTA announced today that its tap water and fare payment system, OMNY, is now an important hub for Payne Station, and it also supports touch-sensitive credit cards such as Apple's mobile wallet and visa payments, MasterCard and American Express.

According to MTA, there are now 96 OMNY readers in Penn's 18 rotating grid arrays, serving lines A, C, E and lines 1, 2 and 3, respectively.

Later this month, New Yorkers will be able to use and ride bicycles at 85 stations in the MTA system. MTA plans to extend contactless payments to all 472 subway stations and all bus lines by the end of 2020.

From March 2020, MTA buses in Manhattan will accept Apple Pay, and more plans will be detailed on the OMNY website.

Apple Pay was first launched on some MTA subway stations and Staten Island buses in May and supports the BRT model. Drivers only need to place their iPhone or Apple Watch near contactless card readers to pay the fare without having to go through Face ID, touch ID or password authentication. There is no need to touch or unlock the device.

At present, OMNY is limited to full fare and pay-per-view fares, and will provide more fare options in the future stages of launch, such as unlimited travel passes and lower fares. Please keep in mind that free shuttle service is only available at stations that support OMNY, so please plan your trip accordingly.

According to MTA, the metro card will not be available until at least 2023.
