Like most Chinese-designed and manufactured phones, Xiaomi's phones cannot be sold in the United States. But it's always a good idea to track these manufacturers, because most of the time they take the lead in new features and specifications. As early as June, for example, we told you that the hidden code found in the latest MIUI (Xiaomi Android UI) camera app indicates that Xiaomi may be the first phone to use Samsung 64MP ISOCELL sensors. Samsung announced the launch of the 64MP ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor in May.

While there are reports that Realme will launch a phone with a 64MP rear camera later this month, Xiaomi revealed today that it will launch its first device with a 64 million-pixel camera in the fourth quarter. This will be found on Redmi-branded phones; this is Xiaomi's budget line. 6mpgw1 uses pixel-Tectell technology to provide "bright" 16MP snapshots in low light conditions. The sensor uses ISOCELL Plus technology to reduce noise by "minimizing light loss and light reflection". It also has a technology called double conversion gain (DCG), which uses ambient lighting to convert light into electronic signals. This will allow the camera to use lower ISO settings in strong lights to reduce noise. It also improves the ISO setting in low light conditions, but it optimizes the signal-to-noise ratio of photos taken under optimal lighting conditions.

Xiaomi also announced that Samsung has broken the 100MP standard and that the new 108MP sensor will make its debut on the upcoming Xiaomi phone. It has the highest resolution of all smartphone camera sensors and can take photos with a resolution of 12032 x 9024. With 2x optical zoom, the sensor can still capture 27MP images. The sensor will be the largest on the market, which means that its "ultra-highlight input (to be used) will provide an image of the star in a low light environment."

As early as March, chip maker Qualcomm hinted that 64MP and 100MP sensors were in use. This reminds people of the megapixel war, which led Nokia to add a 41 million-pixel camera to the back of the Lumia 1020. Until recently, the main focus (no pun) was the use of multiple sensors to improve the photography experience on mobile phones. In addition, as far as consumers are concerned, it seems that the addition of ultra-wide-angle lenses and time-of-flight (ToF) depth sensors has replaced the importance of MP. Google's image processing capabilities have helped Pixel become one of the top, if not top, smartphone brands that want their phones to take great photos. So far, Google has resisted the trend of higher MP and multiple sensors by installing a 12MP sensor on the Pixel series. But it looks like there will be multiple cameras behind the Pixel 4.

While many Americans may not be familiar with the Xiaomi brand, the company did launch its first smartphone with a 48MP camera earlier this year. That's Redmi 7. In the United States, the back of the one plus 7 Pro is equipped with the 48MP main camera. Next up is 64MP, which will not be available on American phones until the first quarter of 2020. As for 108MP sensors, don't expect to find them on all phones sold in states by 2021-2022.
