Shulou(Shulou.com)05/31 Report--

Another day and another rumor about the AMD Radeon RX 6950XT 'RDNA 2 Refresh' graphics card has been posted by Greymon55.

With its existing 7nm Navi 21 XTXH GPU,AMD, some good improvements have been made to the clock speed, not only allowing higher and stable clock frequencies, but also pushing the overclocking specification above 3 GHz. We have seen how the latter helps overclockers push the Radeon RX 6900 XT graphics card with Navi 21 XTXH GPU to the top of multiple benchmarks. But it looks like Navi 21 XTXH is about to be replaced by a more elaborate updated GPU variant of RDNA 2 on the same chip.

Although it is not expected that the AMD will use the 6nm process node, which should help to further boost the GPU clock speed, it is now recommended that the flagship AMD Radeon RX 6950XT graphics card of the RDNA 2 refresh series have a reference boost clock of more than 2.5 GHz. By contrast, the current reference boost clock for Navi 21 XT and XTXH chips is 2250 MHz, and only a few custom variants, such as Gigabyte AORUS RX 6900 XT Xtreme WaterForce WB and ASUS ASUS ROG STRIX LC RX 6900 XT Gaming Top, achieve boost clocks of more than 2.5 GHz (2525 MHz to be exact). Increasing the clock speed will result in more than 26 TFLOP of FP32 horsepower, an increase of 3 TFLOP over existing models.

If the AMD Radeon RX 6950XT makes some optimizations on the RDNA 2 Refresh Navi 21 XTXH GPU to achieve a reference boost clock of more than 2.5 GHz, then we can expect a higher boost clock from a custom model of the same chip. The current custom version has a clock rate of about + 250 to + 300 MHz on the reference specification, and if we use the same number, we can expect the new model to have a frequency of 2.8or 2.9GHz. This will prove to be combined with 18 Gbps memory chips to bring greater performance improvements, and it is rumored to be used in the upcoming product lineup. But this will be at the cost of higher power consumption.

You see, AMD is still on the 7nm node, and that hasn't changed, and you're getting higher clock speeds and higher memory speeds, which requires more power. The TDP of the Radeon RX 6900 XT reference model is 300W, so we can expect the power of the RX 6950XT video card to be 350W or more. Of course, this has not been confirmed, but it is likely to happen. We will certainly know, because there are rumors that the graphics card will be released in the second quarter, as early as April 2022.
