Shulou(Shulou.com)06/01 Report--

This article introduces you how to set up Google Analytics filtering, the content is very detailed, interested friends can refer to it, I hope it can help you.

Google Analytics filters

Google Analytics filtering settings actually contain two logical functions, the first function is our usual sense of filtering, that is, according to certain conditions to filter out some visitors (essentially filtering out part of the traffic), such as filtering out all visitors from Beijing traffic, or only retain a certain subdomain of the site (subdomain) traffic. The second function is not a simple filter, but similar to the "find and replace" function we use in MS Office Word (actually more powerful than this function, because it actually includes three functions: find, replace and reorganize), that is, replace or recombine the expression of some attributes in GA according to certain conditions. For example, replace the English name of campaign in the campaign report with the Chinese name.

In this way, we can see that the main functions of Google Analytics are:

1. Remove some of the traffic we don't want;

2. Change one presentation to another, or implement a presentation that is not possible in standard reporting.

But there's actually a third or fourth function.

3. Because GA is a profile that can be copied continuously, the combination of GA filter and profile can realize the subdivision function needed for analysis. However, this feature was weakened after the appearance of GA Advanced Segments.

4. We can also combine multiple filters to achieve advanced functions like "interpretive programming." This combination of filters, combined with regular expressions, enables more complex filtering or more precise property representation. For example, we know that SE (search engine) is to provide Universal Search (that is, in addition to text search, but also provide pictures, videos, etc.), but we see in GA traffic may be from Google / organic, how do we distinguish traffic is from text search or image or video search? This can actually be achieved through a combination of filters (but this is very advanced and will be discussed later).

The five Google Analytics filter settings to talk about today are very, very basic, and unskilled regular expressions are completely fine, as long as they follow the gourd. Since they are used by almost every analyst who uses GA, it is recommended to keep them in mind.:)

Safety Notice: Please note before you begin the following attempt!

Make sure you copy a new profile to try!

The reason is that filter and advanced segmentation are different. The former is filtering before forming the report, so the filtered data must not appear in the profile, while advanced segmentation is an operation performed after forming the report, and the data will not be lost because of your improper settings. So remember! Sidney is killing everyone.

How to copy the profile is shown in the following figure:

Fig. 1

Click "+ Add new profile" directly after the same GA ID (for example, my GA ID is UA-4130899-1), then enter the name of the profile you want in the image below (Figure 2), then click Continue and save it.

Fig. 2

Isn't that easy? After you're done, you can just copy the profile and "run amok"! There will be no problems with your old data! Now, let's get started!

Setting 1: Filter out your own visits to websites

The most loyal visitor to your website is yourself, without a doubt. However, your own access data will also be mixed with the access data of other users, thus to a certain extent (depending on the traffic of your website, if your website traffic is similar to Sina, then this section can be ignored directly) to pollute the access data of real users of the website.

The easiest way to prevent this is to filter out your own access by blocking certain IP addresses, which is easy to set up in GA. The method is as follows:

1. Click the edit button next to the profile you just copied.

Fig. 3

2. Go to the profile settings page and click "+ add filter".

Fig. 4

3. In Create New Filter, use the following settings, and then enter the name of the filter you want and your IP address. Finally, don't forget to save it.

Fig. 5

Please note that here we use a Predefined filter, which is a few types of filters that GA has prefabricated, mainly to solve this kind of small problem. In this filter, regular expressions are not supported. Therefore, GA's own introduction: www.google.com/support/googleanalytics/bin/answer.py? Answer=55496, which is incorrect because a regular expression is applied.

You ask me, what if it's a dynamic IP? Then you can use Custom filter to select an IP address range for filtering. At this time, you need to use Custom Filter. For example, if I want to filter out the IP range from 121.33.33.33 to 121.33.38.254, my settings are as follows:

Fig. 6

Here, we use the regular expression ^121\.33\. (33\. (3[3-9]|[4-9][0-9]|1([0-9][0-9])|2([0-4][0-9]|5[0-5]))|((3[4-7])\. ([0-9]|[1-9][0-9]|1([0-9][0-9])|2([0-4][0-9]|5[0-5])))|38\. ([0-9]|[1-9][0-9]|1([0-9][0-9])|2([0-4][0-9]|5[0-4])))$。Haha, scary! Don't worry, in fact, you visit this address, you can automatically generate a regular expression of your IP segment: www.google.com/support/googleanalytics/bin/answer.py? answer=55572&hl=en_US&utm_id=ad。Google's own tool works well.

However, this approach may accidentally damage other reasonable access data, so if you want to accurately remove your IP address that changes randomly from day to day, then the filtering function alone is a bit more than enough. We need to use a combination of control cookies and filters to achieve this, you can find some clues here: http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum39/4048.htm, not to mention here.

Setting 2: Change the case of Top Content report URI in Content report

Look at the following report. Is it common for everyone to encounter it?

Fig. 7

In fact, four URLs represent only two pages, but since GA is case sensitive, it will think that these are different URLs, representing different pages.

This is not good, for measures such as page view, we can also add directly, and to the page's bounce rate or avg. Time on page merge, it is a bit troublesome (of course, there are still ways, press the table here, we can figure it out by ourselves). So we need to figure out how to get GA to recognize this situation.

Filter can be easily solved, very simple. The Filter settings are as follows:
