I. Case overview

Backup is an important part of any service in an enterprise, and vSphere virtualization is no exception. This case study will introduce the core component of vsPHERE-vsPHERE Data Protection.

Second, the case pre-knowledge point 1, what is the OVF template

OVF templates are an open, public, secure compression format for virtual machines, usually with the.ova extension, but there is no difference between the two. OVF templates can operate on multiple mainstream virtualization platforms.

What is vSphere Data Protection?

vSphere Data Protection, or VDP, is a technology collaboration between VMware and EMC that provides a next generation solution for disk-based backup and recovery that is reliable and easy to deploy, replacing previous VDR and VCB; fully integrated with vCenter Server to enable efficient centralized management of backup jobs while storing backups on deduplicated target storage.

vSphere Data Protection is available in two versions, VDP and VDP Advanced, which differ in that VDP Advanced supports up to 400 virtual machines and 8TB of storage per appliance, while regular VDP only supports up to 100 virtual machines and 2TB of storage, and VDP Advanced also supports application-level replication, granular recovery on Microsoft Server, and guest-level backup and recovery for SQL Server, Exchange Server, and SharePoint Server. It is important to note that VDP Advanced requires a license to use. III. Case implementation
