While most people are happy to have a stable version, some prefer to use a beta to see the upcoming features that will eventually be applied to the main application. If you are such a person and belong to the WhatsApp Beta community, you will be happy to know that server-side updates are available, with which you will get a new QR code profile and scan other users' code to add it to your WhatsApp contacts.

According to WABetaInfo, version 2.20.171 of WhatsApp will bring a major update to Android Beta, namely QR code support. This is a server-side update, but you need to use the latest version to receive this new feature. The only new change is that each user has their own personal QR code that can be easily shared with others, rather than just providing your phone number, so they can add you to their contacts. Similarly, you can add users to your contacts by scanning their QR codes.

To view your QR code profile and scan for other profiles, go to your WhatsApp settings (assuming you already have this feature and are in the testing phase). The QR code icon will be displayed near your profile information. When you click on it, you will see two tags. The first is your own QR code, which you can share with people who want to add you to WhatsApp. The second tag is the QR code scanner, which can be added. There is also an image selector icon, so you can add code previously saved in Photo Gallery.

Remember, adding you through a QR code means they can still see your phone number. Therefore, you should still make sure that you trust the people who share the code with you, and do not share the code publicly (unless you want to). If you want them to stop sharing your QR code and your phone number, you can also choose to cancel your QR code.

If you are one of the people who get this feature through server-side updates, the updated Beta version will provide QR code function. If you really want to see it in a stable version, there is no news yet, but considering that other messaging applications already have it, we can expect it to see it soon.
