Problem description

How a printer installed on a print server sets common properties, such as who is allowed to print.

Solution method

Please read the blog post before you begin. According to the actual needs, you can set the properties of this printer in the print server.

1. Set the printer to be used by the IT department.

Create an IT department-specific OU in AD, create a domain user Lander Zhang and AllITGuys group, and join Lander Zhang to this group; create a HR department-specific OU in AD, create a domain user Angel Wang and AllHR group, and join Angel Wang to this group:

In the print Service Manager-Printers-Select the printer-Properties:

Delete the default Everyone group, default domain users can add and use this printer, Security-check the default Everyone group-Remove:

Add the ALLITGuys group of the IT department, Add... -enter and find the group name AllITGuys-OK:

After adding it successfully, you can see that AllITGuys has printing permission for this printer-Apply-OK. Complete the permission setting:

two。 Add a printer through UNC.

On the Win7 client computer, log in using the domain account of IT department Lander Zhang and enter the name of the print server\ DC01 through UNC:

You can see the shared printer IT_Deskject 2640-double-click and prompt Looking for a driver... :

If you have this printer driver, you don't need to download it from the print server. If not, download-Finishing the installation... from the print server. :

Open the printer box port after installation is complete:

Try to print a txt file:

The print task was successfully sent to the print server. The picture Status is Error because I am not connected to the real printer:

Log in to the Win7 client computer using the Angel Wang account of the HR department, enter the print server name\ DC01 through UNC, and then double-click the printer IT_HP Deskjet 2640 to prompt Access Denied, which is consistent with our permission for this printer to be used by the IT department:

3. Colleagues belonging to the IT department can only manage their own printing tasks.

Colleagues who belong to the AllITGulys group of the IT department can add and use printers of IT_HP Deskjet 2640. They can only cancel / restart the printer tasks under their own name, and other IT colleagues can see them, but cannot do anything.

Create a new Vitror Li domain account in AD and add it to the AllITGuys group:

After logging in, add the printer to see the printer task sequence, which shows that the Owner is Lander Zhang:

Right-click the task sequence-try Cancel-Yes:

Display Access Denied:

Log in using your Lander Zhang account:

Right-click Cancel-Yes:

The task sequence is Deleting... :

Don't cancel the task sequence by yourself:
