Shulou(Shulou.com)06/01 Report--
This article introduces the relevant knowledge of "the network configuration of vmware". Many people will encounter such a dilemma in the operation of actual cases, so let the editor lead you to learn how to deal with these situations. I hope you can read it carefully and be able to achieve something!
Text:
I am using vmware workstation 4.52 and the windows Xp professional machine is running. If you are still making vmware workstation 4.0 suggest downloading an upgrade package, I don't think it's a big problem even if you don't do it.
one. Install vmware workstation, is very simple, all the way to ok, I believe that most of the friends have installed.
two. Create a new guest system. Select the type. Because I experimented with redhat 9, which has the most problems, I chose redhat linux, custom, and hostonly for the network interface. (if you have installed it, it doesn't matter if you use nat or bridge, just change it to hostonly in the properties of the virtual machine. )
three. Start the virtual machine after creation and insert the first disk where rh9 is installed. Choose custom installation, I only keep gonme, X, and graphical internet, saving installation space and time.
four. The installation process was smooth and there was no problem. Restart the virtual machine after completion and found that it hung up when updating the fstab. It is estimated that the connection to the cdrom live floppy disk timed out. Kill remove the virtual machine, change the settings, and erase the autoconnect when power on of the CD drive and floppy disk. Restart the virtual machine, no problem, enter the final settings, sound card, graphical interface are no problem.
five. Install vmware-tool in the virtual machine as required to better support the mouse and graphics.
If you are in a graphical interface, first switch to text mode.
Right-click on the desktop to open a client
At the end of the day:
Su
# / sbin/telinit 3
The graphical interface disappears, hit enter a few times and log in in text mode.
Select vm- >; install vmware tools from the window menu of vmware in windows
In a virtual machine:
Su
Mount / dev/cdrom / mnt/cdrom
Cd / tmp
Tar zxf / mnt/vmware-linux-tools.tar.gz
Cd vmware-tools-distrib
. / vmware-install.pl
Answer and set the screen resolution. In addition to the resolution you need to choose, enter directly.
Return to the default graphical interface (runlevel 5)
/ sbin/telinit 5
6. Log in to the virtual machine and open a client:
/ sbin/ifconfig
I found that eth0 didn't get up.
Don't panic.
-here are the network settings-
seven. In windows XP, check all the network connections, you should find that in addition to the original network card, there are more Vmnet1 and Vmnet8. If you read the instructions, you should know that vmnet1 is the interface of hostonly, and Vmnet8 is the network interface that uses NAT. Here we don't want to use either VMWARE's native DHCP or his NAT, so we know we care about VMnet1.
Before going any further, let's talk about idea:
We will use the hostonly network interface to connect the virtual machine and the host, and then use the internet connection sharing included in windows Xp/2000 (actually a simple routing NAT) to allow the virtual machine to access the external network through the original network card.
So why not use bridging, which I have discussed in the previous article (linux host + windows guest), please refer to. However, the most realistic reason is that bridging requires a separate IP address different from that on the original host, which is more difficult in some cases (IP and MAC binding, network management disagrees).
OK, let's go
(1) check the properties of your network card connected to the external network, select the "Advanced" tab, set it to allow sharing, and set the allowed network interface to VMNET1, as shown in the following figure.
(2) plug in the properties of your VMnet1 and look at the settings of the TCP/IP protocol. You will find that it has been automatically set to 192.168.0.1 Universe 255.255.255.0, as shown in the figure below.
(3) after the configuration under windows is completed, transfer to the virtual machine running linux. Set the ip address of your eth0 to static (if static is not selected during installation)
(4) after the configuration under windows is completed, transfer to the virtual machine running linux. Set the ip address of your eth0 to static (if static is not selected during installation).
Press the Red Hat icon-> system Settings-> Network (or any other method you know)
Ip: 192.168.0.2 (or other address on this segment)
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.0.1
Dns: enter your own DNS
Save the settings. If you haven't set up the host name:
Cd / etc/sysconfig
Vi network
Edit HOSTNAME
Cd / etc
Vi hosts
Join:
192.168.0.2 yourhostname
Restart the service
Su
/ sbin/service network restart
(4) Test it.
Gateway: ping 192.168.0.1
Dns: ping dnsserver
