Background

At the meeting yesterday, the manager planned to deploy PowerShell DSC uniformly in the company. Of course, one of the prerequisites is to upgrade all Windows servers from PS to version 5.1. Now the company's Windows servers include windows 2008 R2, Windows2012, Windows2012 R2 and Windows 2016.

Challenges

WMF5.1 corresponds to different KB versions according to different operating systems, and forms three versions for Windows 2008 R2, Windows 2012 and Windows 2012R2 respectively. Windows 2016 comes with PS5.1, so you don't need to pay attention to it.

Solution: scenario 1 (windows2012 and windows2012R2)

For Windows 2012 and Windows 2012 R2, this problem is actually easy to solve. Their corresponding versions are KB3191564 and KB3191565, which are already on windows update catalog's website, and all we need to do is import WSUS directly.

Turn on WSUS's server

Select Import Updates in Actions

Automatically jump to the download page and choose to install ActiveX

Search the corresponding KB file and add it to basket

Check Import WSUS

Download completed

Then search WSUS for the downloaded KB and approve the installation.

Option 2 (windows2008R2)

For windows2008R2, he does not support WSUS to install WMF5.1 directly, so what to do? We can install it through traditional group policy + script.

There are many ways to install, this time using the PowerShell boot script to install. There are a lot of ready-made installation scripts online, so beans don't repeat the wheels and download a ready-made one.

This script can install msu files and exe files, which is essentially by calling wusa.exe.

Create a new gpo file with the following configuration. The install-update.ps1 inside is the ready-made script I downloaded, and the following parameters specify the kb name and installation path. The installation path must ensure that domain computer has access, otherwise an error access denied will be reported.

Assign this group policy to the corresponding OU, restart the server of Windows 2008 R2, after a long wait, about 15 minutes, test the version of powershell and find that it has been successfully updated.
