Editor to share with you how to install Ubuntu VMware vmware tool, I hope you will learn something after reading this article. Let's discuss it together.

If you are installing Ubuntu under VM, you must install VMware-tools to get a better experience, including screen resolution, sound, and windows shared clipboard, etc.

Click-VM-Install VMware Tools on the Ubuntu VMware menu

At this point, the installation CD image of the Linux version of VMware Tools will be automatically loaded under Ubuntu. You will see that a CD icon named VMware Tools appears on the desktop of the virtual machine and is opened automatically. It includes VMwareTools-xxx-i386.rpm and VMwareTools- xxx.tar.gz files.

If you double-click the rpm file, you will be prompted for an unsupported package, because rpm is an installation package for RedHat, and we need the .tar.gz one. Copy the .tar.gz file to the desktop, right-click the menu-unzip it here. Will automatically extract to a vmware-tools-distrib directory.

Open the terminal (system's application menu-attachments-terminal) and execute the following command line at one time:

$cd Desktop $cd vmware-tools-distrib $sudo. / vmware-install.p

(enter will prompt for your password, and the password will not be displayed, indicating that you will perform an action with higher privileges to install the software; enter again and the installation will begin)

After confirming the enter of Ubuntu VMware (which is equivalent to many dialogs filled in when installing software in Windows, we use the default settings here), until the word "Enjoy--the VMware team" appears, VMwareTools is finally installed.

If you are using VMware Workstation 6.0.0, you should be able to see the effect of VMware Tools installation by now: the mouse no longer needs to use Ctrl+Alt to switch between virtual and real, everything transitions so naturally; the resolution of the virtual machine can also adapt to the size of the window, everything seems so harmonious.

In Ubuntu VMware Workstation 5.5.3, after Ubuntu VMware Tools installation, you have to manually execute / usr/bin/vmware-toolbox to show the effect. You can run it by typing the following command in the terminal: $/ usr/bin/vmware-toolbox, but if you find it troublesome, we need to let vmware-toolbox boot automatically. Click the Ubuntu menu: system-- * item-- session-- Startup Programs,Add a Name called "vmware-toolbox", and Command is the launcher of "/ usr/bin/vmware-toolbox". In this way, you can run Ubuntu VMware Tools automatically every time you turn it on. Restart Ubuntu to see how it works! (note: vmware-toolbox is not hidden in the background, do not turn it off after startup)

Ubuntu VMware Tools is a good thing, but it also has side effects, such as: the mouse wheel in the virtual machine doesn't work. Let's solve this problem by opening the terminal and typing: $sudo gedit / etc/X11/xorg.conf this command causes the system to open the mouse configuration file / etc/X11/xorg.conf with root privileges.

Change Option "Protocol"ps/2" in the file to Option "Protocol"IMPS/2" if there is no line Option "Protocol"ps/2". Add this line to the virtual mouse column.
