Shulou(Shulou.com)06/03 Report--
What is the difference between the processor A76 architecture and the A77 architecture? Many novices are not very clear about this. In order to help you solve this problem, the following editor will explain it in detail. People with this need can come and learn. I hope you can gain something.
The difference between processor A76 architecture and A77 architecture
1. A77 is twice as high as A76 branch predictor.
2. In the case of cache hit, A77 directly lets the instruction enter the CPU central renaming phase, which reduces the length of the operation pipeline and improves the efficiency by 30%.
Cortex-A77
From the perspective of product development, Cortex-A77 is the direct successor of Cortex-A76, which means that the new architecture is basically the same as the previous generation of products. ARM said that Cortex-A77 can be deployed simply by upgrading SoC IP, and there is no need to pull it down and start all over again.
Corresponding to the actual product, Cortex-A77, like Cortex-A76, still uses ARMv8.2 's CPU core and supports AArch42 and AArch74. In terms of multi-core design, Cortex-A77 still supports DSU (DynamIQ Shared Uint) to pair with smaller Cortex-A55 units. In basic architectural configuration, Cortex-A77 still supports 64KB L1 instruction and data caching as well as 256KB or 512KB L2 caching.
Interestingly, ARM chose a smaller capacity solution for Cortex-A77 's L2 cache design because its infrastructure-oriented Neoverse N1 processor architecture uses 1MB's L2 cache, which itself comes from Cortex-A76, which may mean that ARM has more unique ideas on processor configuration.
According to experience, as the evolution of Cortex-A76 architecture, from the micro-architecture point of view, the performance improvement of Cortex-A77 should not be very large, from the absolute performance point of view should be the same, after all, the process has not greatly improved at this time node. Most Cortex-A77 products still use the 7nm process, and ARM claims that the peak frequency of the Cortex-A77 is the same as that of the previous Cortex-A76, which is 3GHz. If that's the case, Cortex-A77 may not have much to show off.
But according to the roadmap released by ARM, Cortex-A77 can bring a 20% performance improvement compared to the previous generation. Considering that it has not changed much in craftsmanship and frequency, this means that there will be a significant change in the architecture of Cortex-A77, and IPC has been significantly improved. In fact, ARM has redesigned the architecture of Cortex-A77, introducing a large number of intelligent functions, resulting in up to 20% performance growth with the same process and frequency.
