Therefore, when the network is growing and the number of VLAN is increasing, it is necessary to configure the routing function of layer 3 switch to realize the communication between different VLAN.

​ in fact, we can simply understand the layer 3 switch as a familiar combination of layer 2 switch and a routing module. Layer 3 switch is a switch with some router functions, which works in the third layer of the OSI network standard model: the network layer. The most important purpose of layer 3 switch is to speed up the data exchange within a large local area network, and its routing function is also for this purpose, which can be routed once and forwarded many times.

Purpose of the experiment: to realize the communication between three different VLAN

Experimental environment:

1.GNS3 software

2.3initialized PC hosts + 1 initialized switch + 1 initialized layer 3 switch

3. If the host is using a virtual machine, then all the firewalls of the virtual machine need to be turned off, otherwise the data transmission will be affected later.

The process of the experiment:

1.GNS3 software, 3 PC hosts + 1 switch + 1 layer 3 switch ready

two。 We connect all of them with a network cable, and define each IP address according to our personal preference. PC2 and PC3 are written in the same VLAN and written next to the port, then we enter the IP address and check it.

3. Configure SW1 switch VLAN

4. Create a f1/0Ttunk link on SW1

5. Configure SW2 layer 3 switch VLAN

There is no need to turn off the routing function.

6. Configure the gateway for SW2

7. Configure IP addresses for 3 PC

8. Connect PC3 with PC1 to see if the experiment is successful
