Shulou(Shulou.com)06/01 Report--
It is believed that many inexperienced people have no idea about how to maximize the battery life of Windows 10 PC. Therefore, this paper summarizes the causes and solutions of the problem. Through this article, I hope you can solve this problem.
Over the years, Windows PC has been able to extract a full day's work from laptop batteries, but there is still a degree of anxiety about disconnecting from a fixed power supply. You don't need medication or meditation to reduce anxiety. All you need is some knowledge of how PC works with Win10.
This article assumes that you are using a portable PC designed for Win10, and that the computer has a modern processor capable of running the Connected Standby state and the latest version of windows 10. Assuming you meet these conditions, all of the following steps should work properly.
1. Create and save battery report
Win10 includes a command-line tool that generates detailed reports that show information about the battery usage of the current device over time. This information is saved as an HTML document and can be viewed in any Web browser.
Each battery report includes tables and charts that show recent usage, usage history, battery capacity over a period of time, and battery life estimates. Even if you are not technologically proficient, you should be able to gather useful information from this report.
To generate a battery report, first open a command prompt session: press Windows + R to open the run dialog box, type cmd, and then press Enter. Then, in the Command prompt window, type the following command, and press Enter after each command (be sure to include a space between the command, argument, and switch):
Cd%temp%
Powercfg / Battery report
This sequence generates a battery report and saves it in the Temp folder of the current user. To open the report immediately from the Command prompt window, type the full report name battery-report.html, and then press Enter. (to save some keystrokes, type batt, and then press Tab to automatically complete the full file name.)
Use the powercfg command with the / batteryreport switch to generate this document in HTML format.
Each time a new battery report is generated, it overwrites the previous report. Any information over a few weeks will be summarized to cover the total value of a full week or month. To save daily details, open File Explorer, navigate to the% Temp% folder, move the battery report file to the documents folder, and rename it.
two。 Check the current capacity of the battery
Each portable PC comes with one or more batteries with a capacity of milliwatt hours or mWh. Over time, this capacity decreases when you charge and discharge your laptop battery. In the end, the downgrade can be so severe that laptops are basically unusable unless they are connected to power.
The installed Battery section at the top of the battery report shows the design capacity of each available battery and the current fully charged capacity, and the Battery capacity History section shows the changes of the two values over time.
The best way to extend battery life is to avoid storing or using the battery in a high temperature environment; unlike earlier battery technologies, you don't have to worry about part of the discharge cycle, although it occasionally helps to complete the entire discharge-charging cycle (about a month).
3. Analyze the usage you have observed over time
As far as I can remember, PC manufacturers and independent auditors have been trying to come up with battery life measurements that can be used to compare the performance of different devices. Typically, these schemes measure video playback or some form of loop through web pages and various applications.
Everything is fine, except that you may want to know how much power a particular workload will consume on your laptop battery. And, of course, the metric will vary depending on the application you are using, the quality of the network connection, and other variables. This is why measuring actual observed usage is more important than any comprehensive benchmark.
You can find details of battery depletion in the Battery usage report under the heading "Battery usage", which shows a chart for the last three days.
The chart shown here provides you with a complete picture of battery usage.
The graphics section shows the time (from left to right) and charge / discharge activity (charge up, charge down). The following table provides details about each change from active usage to connected standby when running on battery power.
The real key to interpreting this data is knowing what you are doing in each session. For example, in one such report, I have two Active sessions, each for about an hour, one of which consumes 7% of the battery and the other consumes about twice as much power. Having a clear understanding of what is being done in each session allows you to see the battery consumption of each particular activity at a glance.
4. Estimated average battery life
The Battery Life estimation section of each battery report accurately fulfilled its commitment to estimate the total battery life in a session based on the activity observed.
Use this list to view the full range of battery life observed over time.
These estimates are usually very accurate, and you can see at a glance how much power is consumed in each session based on the work you do.
Sometimes, I notice that battery reports can record surprisingly abnormal data, and as windows 10 told me in one session, I seriously expect that I can use it for more than 980741 hours. Needless to say, this estimate is unreliable, and annoyingly, it makes the calculation of average battery life useless.
5. Determine which applications will affect your battery life
Battery reports are not the only useful system information provided by windows 10. A separate report allows you to zero power consumption on an application-by-application basis. To find this list, go to Settings > system > Battery, and then click see which applications affect battery life.
Use the drop-down menu at the top of the page to filter the list to show activities for the past six hours, the entire 24 hours, or the previous week.
This list is a powerful way to identify applications that use more than their reasonable battery usage. With these details, you can modify application usage or check other power-saving options for a single application. (for example, I've learned that it's useful to turn off TweetDeck before putting the system to sleep.)
6. Adjust power and sleep settings
It's one thing to learn how the windows 10 PC uses battery power. Knowing how to control its electricity consumption is another matter.
To turn on basic power management options, go to Settings > system > Power and Sleep. Here, you can adjust the interval, after which the Windows will turn off the monitor and put the system into sleep mode when connected to power and battery power.
The monitor is one of the most power-consuming components in modern PC, so turning it off as soon as possible is a huge energy-saving measure. Similarly, there is almost no punishment for actively setting sleep thresholds. Modern processors are very effective in managing sleep states and can recover immediately.
Configure these options to strike the right balance between battery life and effective use.
For complete power management options, click the small additional power settings link. This takes you to the old Windows 7-style control panel, where you can define what happens when the power button is pressed or the laptop lid is closed.
7. Enable hibernation
It is the right strategy to put your laptop to sleep and restore it as needed during your work. However, if you plan to be away from work for more than a few hours, you can choose hibernation mode. I rediscovered this fact on my Arm laptop after stuffing it into my schoolbag before the transatlantic flight. When I landed, I found that the battery was almost completely dead and my laptop bag was very hot. Oops.
When you tell windows 10 PC to go into hibernation, it saves the current state of memory to a file and then closes it, which means there is no chance of "hot bag syndrome". When you reboot by pressing the power button, Windows reloads the contents of the memory from the hibernation file, allowing you to continue from the location where you last interrupted.
If the hibernation option is enabled, you can use advanced power options to specify that you want to sleep automatically after a specific interval in hibernation mode. In the Power options section of the Control Panel, click change while computer sleeps, then click change Advanced Power Settings, and then expand the Sleep heading to display the settings shown here.
You can also assign the hibernation option to actions such as closing the cover or pressing the power button.
If the hibernation option is not available, open a command prompt session (cmd.exe) and run the following command:
Power cfg / h
8. Learn the secret of quick shutdown
Typically, you can switch between the active and connection standby power states by closing the laptop cover, pressing the power button, or using the Power menu. But there is another possibly simpler option: the Shutdown command.
You can use this tool from a command prompt (Cmd.exe) window, a run dialog box, or even a search box. Shutdown has many command line switches, so you can see if you have run the built-in help options:
Turn it off?
But some of these switches are worth your shortlist. Run shutdown / r after a short grace period to restart and use shutdown / h to sleep immediately.
9. Use the battery power saving option to maximize power savings
Windows 10 includes a power-saving option that immediately turns off battery-consuming activities, such as push notifications and background activities for some applications. Turning on the power-saving mode greatly extends battery life and has the added benefit of reducing distractions at work.
By default, when the remaining battery power drops below 20%, the power saving mode is set to turn on automatically. You can change this setting by going to Settings > system > Battery. Don't forget the "reduce screen brightness when battery saves" option at the bottom of this screen. Dimming the monitor is one of the most effective ways to save battery life when needed.
To manually turn on power saving mode without turning on Settings, click the battery icon in the notification area, and then click the Power Save Mode option. You can determine whether the power saving mode is turned on by the green leaves above the battery icon. Click this option again to turn off power saving mode.
