This article mainly explains "how to back up and restore Ubuntu Linux". Interested friends may wish to have a look. The method introduced in this paper is simple, fast and practical. Let's let the editor take you to learn how to back up and restore Ubuntu Linux.

Install TimeShift on Ubuntu / Debian Linux

TimeShift is not officially hosted in Ubuntu and Debian repositories. With this in mind, we will run the following command to add PPA:

# add-apt-repository-y ppa:teejee2008/ppa

Add timeshift repository

Next, update the system package with the following command:

# apt update

After successfully updating the system, install Timeshift using the following apt command:

# apt install timeshift

Apt install timeshift

Prepare to backup storage Devic

Best practices require us to keep a snapshot of the system on a separate storage volume outside the system's hard drive. For this guide, we will use 16GB flash as the second drive and save the snapshot on that drive.

# lsblk | grep sdb

Lsblk sdb ubuntu

In order to use flash as the backup location for snapshots, we need to create a partition table on the device. Run the following command:

# parted / dev/sdb mklabel gpt# parted / dev/sdb mkpart primary 0% 100% # mkfs.ext4 / dev/sdb1
