Juniper netscreen firewall TFTP upgrade procedure

Juniper(netscreen) firewall will issue a new OS version every three months or so, fixing bugs in previous versions, adding new features, and some new versions will greatly improve the performance of the firewall, so it is a good choice to take full advantage of the version upgrade service during the warranty period.

Web-based upgrades are simple, but some OS version upgrades require bootloader upgrades, so you need to upgrade via TFTP at the command line. This upgrade is required to upgrade Juniper's new UTM products SSG550, SSG520 to the latest OS version ScreenOS 6.0. I have SSG520, and new bootloader, OS, do an upgrade test.

Step 1: Upgrade the firewall bootloader file.

1. Download the boot loader image file (boot2.v.1.0.3), copy the file to the root directory of TFTP server, and start TFTP server.

2。Connect the TFTP server (notebook or desktop) and port eth 0/0 of SSG 520 through a network cable;

3。Connect console port to laptop via console cable.

4. Restart firewall (enter reset command in CLI mode.)

Self IP Address [192.168.1.1]: ; Enter the firewall address, write whatever you want

TFTP IP Address [192.168.1.2]: ; Enter the TFTP server address, note that it is the same network segment as the firewall address;

Press Enter and see the following system information:

Upgrade successful.

After reboot, the system appears

The bootloader is the latest version.

Step 2: Upgrade the OS file.

Upgrading the OS can be done under the Web interface or via TFTP.

TFTP upgrade is also a system reboot, which occurs during system startup.

At this time press any key, will enter the OS upgrade interface, upgrade process and bootloader the same.

After the upgrade is completed, enter the system through the Web, you will find that the system interface has been updated. After upgrading SSG520 to ScreenOS 6.0 r2, the number of concurrent connections has doubled compared with the previous version, and the performance is improved for free.
