Shulou(Shulou.com)05/31 Report--

This article will explain in detail what is the use of DRS in VMWARE. The editor thinks it is very practical, so I share it with you for reference. I hope you can get something after reading this article.

DRS function:

VMware describes the role of vSphere DRS as "automatically balancing resource utilization among different hosts based on business priorities, and optimizing power consumption by shutting down some hosts during periods of low load." DRS can help with the initial installation of VM, load balancing, and maintaining maximum energy efficiency in the data center.

VMware DRS performs the initial installation of VM on the host. Suppose you add a new VM to a group of ESX/ESXi cluster servers. DRS checks the load of different hosts in the cluster, and then selects the appropriate host to create a new VM. Assuming that most of the resources of the three hosts A, B, and C have been used, vSphere DRS will start a new VM on the underutilized host C.

DRS continuously monitors the resources available to hosts in the cluster, and then gives running VM recommendations to balance and maximize the use of these free resources. For example, in a cluster of A, B, and C host hosts, all VM use similar memory and CPU resources. If hosts An and B are running five VM each, and host C supports only two VM,DRS, it may be recommended to migrate one VM from hosts An and B to C. In this way, both An and B support four VM, balancing resources. Depending on your configuration, DRS can simply recommend migration or implementation execution. It's entirely up to you.

DPM (Distributed Power Management) is an optional feature of DRS. When DPM is enabled, DRS evaluates the current and past usage of the cluster host, and then automatically (or configured to advise the administrator) to put the host on standby until demand grows. By enabling DPM,vSphere in DRS, you can actually reduce power consumption and cooling requirements in the data center. Please treat DPM as a green energy-saving technology.

1. Start DRS

2. The corresponding configuration of DRS

3. Check the operation of DRS
