Shulou(Shulou.com)05/31 Report--
Google is introducing a new subscription pricing structure for its Nest security suite, which has been in place for more than six months since the company first disclosed its plans. While the move is partly aimed at simplifying pricing, it also attracts consumers to buy more Nest devices by eliminating the cost of each device in the Nest Aware subscription program-- which will help Google compete with Amazon in the booming smart home surveillance space.
According to MarketsAndMarkets, the global home security system market is recognized as a $46 billion industry in 2018 and is likely to grow by more than 60 per cent by 2023. The Internet of things (IoT) is a major driver of this trend, with demand fuelled by users from companies such as Amazon and Google that can install Wi-Fi-connected cameras.
Google's latest move also shows that competition for technology companies to "own" smart homes is getting fiercer. They have a range of devices, including cameras, voice-enabled smart speakers, monitors, and more devices to connect consumers to different ecosystems.
Google sells a range of nest-branded security cameras and smart displays with different functions. While these devices can be used to monitor the inside and outside of a user's home in real time and receive alerts through mobile applications, a single Nest Aware subscription can unlock a series of additional functions. So far, this includes unlimited recording of 24 accordion 7, which costs $5, $10, or $30 a month, depending on the video recording history that users want. But the real drawback is that users have to pay a separate subscription fee for each Nest device on the home network.
Starting today, Nest Aware will be just part of two subscription plans in the 19 available markets. The cheapest option is $6 a month, including a 30-day video history of "events", which means users can access clips of "events" detected by the camera instead of recording everything in succession. For $12 a month, customers can get 60 days of event history and 10 days of round-the-clock video recording. If paid annually, the monthly fee for the two services will be reduced to $5 and $10, respectively.
But it can be said that the biggest change is that Nest Aware users include unlimited devices, including cameras, speakers and monitors. Given the low cost, this will make the service more attractive to those considering installing several bird nests at home.
Specifically, Amazon's Ring Protect has two subscription plans. The basic plan is to pay $3 a month and provide 60 days of video history events for single-loop device testing. Plus plans to pay $10 a month to allow Ring users to add Ring devices at will and to be professionally monitored at any time, including the ability to call emergency responders when security incidents are discovered. However, at present, Environmental Protection does not provide users with 24ap7 timed recording, only the "unexpected" clips it has detected.
The attractiveness of each service certainly depends on the needs of individual consumers. If a person only needs a camera and can sound a real-time alarm when an error is detected, he may be happy to accept Amazon's basic package of $3 a month. But for those who want to install multiple cameras at home, Nest Aware is much more attractive. In addition, Google needs to do its best to make sure it has enough influence to let people into its smart home ecosystem.
According to eMarketer, 70 per cent of US smart speaker users use Amazon's Echo devices, while only 32 per cent use Google-branded smart speakers (more than 100 per cent because some people use both brands). Obviously, this is a trend that Google wants to reverse. By making its smart home products easier to use, it can encourage other products in its product line.
It is also worth noting that Google said that users who are satisfied with their current Nest Aware subscriptions can continue to use the existing plan.
Google has also added some new smart nest awareness features, including the ability to monitor homes using audio through nested smart speakers, so smoke alarms or broken glass sounds send alerts to Google apps. In addition, Google app at home also allows nest to call 911 in the United States. If they leave home, the main advantage of making calls through app rather than the phone itself is that app will automatically transfer your phone to the nearest center from home, rather than to the place where you make the call. Other new features of Nest include receiving alerts and monitoring elderly relatives through a Nest Hub Max display.
Finally, Google also announced that the price of the Nest Hub display will be reduced from $129.99 to $89.99, while the price of the Nest Cam indoor phone will be reduced from $199.99 to $129.99.
