Connect to Beaglebone Black over the Internet

Through the network connection, you can easily access the Beaglebone Black from a variety of places and different computers. This connection to the Beaglebone Black is typically powered by a power adapter with a 5V 2.1 mm column DC interface, and then connects the Beaglebone Black to the router through a network cable, as shown in figure 1.7.

At this point, we can find the IP address assigned to Beaglebone Black by logging into the background of the router and use the browser to access the board. However, routers typically use DHCP to assign IP addresses to devices. DHCP is a recursive abbreviation for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, that is, dynamic host configuration protocol. That is to say, the IP address is assigned dynamically, which causes the IP address of the Beaglebone Black to change at any time. If we access the board in this way, we need to go to the router background to query the IP address assigned by IP to Beaglebone Black every time we access the board.

Another way is to use hostname access. It is very convenient to access Beaglebone Black using hostname in Linux or OS X system. You can access beaglebone.local directly in browser. Figure 1.8 shows the effect of access in Linux system, which also accesses Beaglebone 101page.

If you use the hostname to access the board under Windows, you need to install the Bonjour Print Services for Windows software, which can be downloaded and installed in http://support.apple.com/kb/DL999. After that, the board can be accessed using the hostname under the Windows system, as shown in figure 1.9, which is the effect of access under the Firefox browser.
