Millions of WhatsApp users have begun to receive notifications from popular messaging service WhatsApp asking them to either accept the new terms of service and privacy policy or lose access to the app by Feb. 8.

In-app notifications from Facebook's own platform are sent to both Android and iOS users, mentioning key updates such as how the company handles user data, how the company uses Facebook hosting services to store and manage their WhatsApp chats, and how the company works with Facebook to provide product integration.

The new provisions of WhatsApp and its privacy policy will come into effect on February 8, 2021. Users must accept these terms and changes before they can continue to use their WhatsApp account after the deadline. Those who do not accept the new privacy policy will no longer be able to use the application. Basically, WhatsApp leaves users no choice.

One of the major changes involves its data collection, which means you will share data with Facebook.

"when users forward the media in a message, we temporarily store the media on our server in encrypted form to help deliver other retweets more efficiently," WhatsApp said on its website.

New terms of service and privacy policies also make it necessary for WhatsApp users to share information with Facebook. Existing users can choose not to share their WhatsApp account information with Facebook before updating.

WhatsApp said, "We may use the information we receive from them, and they may use the information we share with them to help operate, provide, improve, understand, customize, support and market our services and their products, including Facebook products.

"the information we share with other Facebook companies includes your account registration information (such as your phone number), transaction data, information related to services, information about how you interact with others (including businesses) when using our services, mobile device information (that is, your IP address), and may contain other information, which is determined in the privacy policy section entitled" Information we collect " Or after you notify you or with your consent.

WhatsApp said it would collect user information to provide services and customized experiences for users.

The information you will share with WhatsApp will be your phone number, application log, status message, your profile name, profile picture, and IP address.

If you don't want Facebook to do this, the only option is to switch to another messaging service, such as telegram or signal.
