How to use Serv-U to restrict the types of files uploaded by users?

Using Serv-U can be used not only to restrict the user's read, write, delete and other permissions, but also according to the file type.

Case: restrict users to upload files of type .gif, .jpg, and .bmp only.

The specific implementation steps are described below.

(1) create a new user benet in serv-U, navigate to the Directory access tab, click the add button, and set user access to .gif files in the Directory access rules window. Enter "* .gif" in the path bar, set permissions to read and write, and then click the Save button, as shown in figure 5.1.

(2) add the user's read and write permissions to .jpg and .bmp files in the above way, as shown in figure 5.2.

(3) continue to click the "add" button in figure 5.2, set user access to other types of files as read-only in the "Directory access rules" window, and then click the "Save" button, as shown in figure 5.3.

(4) Click the "add" button in figure 5.2 again, and set the user's access to its home directory as read-only in the "Directory access rules" window. After adding, the user rights access rules are shown in figure 5.4. Click the "Save" button to save.

By accessing the FTP server on the client, the user can successfully upload files of .gif, .jpg, and .bmp types, and when the user uploads .doc or other types of files, an error message is prompted as shown in figure 5.5.

Reopen the Directory access tab of the user properties, select a rule, and use the up or Down buttons on the right side of the window to adjust the priority of the rule. To ensure that user permissions are applied correctly, you need to put the rules of the file type above the rules of the home directory.
