Active Screen is a unique feature in QTP that can be used to assist in editing and maintaining test scripts after recording test scripts. Even if the screenshot of the test step can be used to describe the test step intuitively, Active Screen is also a database of test object information, which stores the information of the test object in the test step, which can be used to add test objects and insert checkpoints.

View Active Screen

Active Screen is a screenshot of QTP for each test step during recording. You can view each test step Active Screen by selecting the menu View > Active Screen.

The screenshot displayed in Active Screen corresponds to the test step of clicking the OK button. The screenshot of Active Screen can be used to add test steps and insert checkpoints later.

Settings for Active Screen

The interface corresponding to the screenshot based on Active Screen can parameterize the values of objects, insert checkpoints, and output values after recording, even if the application is not started and activated. This is because Active Screen stores information about the test interface. You can adjust the granularity of storing information related to the test interface when Active Screen screenshots are taken. In QTP, select the menu Tools > Options. In Capture Level, you can set the level at which Active Screen captures information, including four levels:

(1) Complete: capture and store all information, including all active windows, dialogs, Web pages, etc., of the application in the four steps.

(2) Partial: this is the default value to capture and store the application window performed in the first step, as well as the object properties that are subordinate to that window.

(3) Minimum: only the properties of the recorded object and its parent object are captured and stored.

(4) None: the ability to shield Active Screen from capturing and storing object attributes.

Note: the more information you store, the easier it is to edit the test script later, but the more information you store, the slower the recording process and the more storage space you need.
