It seems that the battery life of the Samsung Galaxy S22 will be greatly improved next year. The South Korean smartphone maker confirmed that it had "successfully developed a low-power smartphone on the OLED panel that can reduce power consumption by 25 per cent". At the same time, it also increased the light transmittance by 33%.

The news broke out in the official Samsung display press room and detailed how the company created organic light-emitting diode displays without polarizers. So far, in organic light emitting diode displays, polarizers must be used to eliminate reflection and increase the thickness by 50 to 100 microns, thus blocking some emitted light, which has a knock-on effect of reducing brightness and vividness. But now Samsung has managed to eliminate the need for polarizers.

The unpolarized screen will make its debut on the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, which will be launched in a few days and has been rated by many media as the best foldable phone in the world. The new technology is especially suitable for foldable phones because the effect of reducing the thickness of the screen has doubled and benefits both sides of the collapsible screen.

Unfortunately, the official post gave no details of how Samsung successfully built the unpolarized OLED screen, but the image above shows how what Samsung calls the new screen technology "eco-OLED" works.

Kim Seong-cheol, president of Samsung's small and medium-sized display business, said of the breakthrough in organic light-emitting diodes:

"Eco OLED is a breakthrough technology that improves panel efficiency and reduces power consumption by changing the basic structure of OLED. To this end, we plan to continue our efforts to reduce panel power consumption through innovative driving technologies and optimized organic materials."

At T3, we think the progress of this OLED screen sounds great. After all, who doesn't want to improve screen brightness and energy efficiency? No one, who is that? The less energy required to power the monitor, the less battery power is consumed, thus extending battery life.

In fact, while we are pleased to see this technology debut on Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, we can't help but feel more excited about the prospect of its inclusion in Samsung Galaxy S22, which now seems inevitable.
