Shulou(Shulou.com)06/02 Report--
This article will explain in detail the use of solid state drives and mechanical hard drives in computers. The editor thinks it is very practical, so I share it with you as a reference. I hope you can get something after reading this article.
Solid state hard disk (SSD) is a hard disk made of solid-state electronic memory chip array, which is composed of control unit and memory unit (FLASH chip, DRAM chip). The mechanical hard disk is the traditional ordinary hard disk, which is mainly composed of disk, magnetic head, disk shaft and control motor, magnetic head controller, data converter, interface, cache and so on.
What is a solid state drive?
Solid state drive (Solid State Disk or Solid State Drive, referred to as SSD), commonly known as solid state hard drive.
Solid-state hard disk is a hard disk made of solid-state electronic memory chip array.
It is named because the solid capacitor is called Solid in Taiwanese English. SSD consists of control unit and memory unit (FLASH chip, DRAM chip).
The specification and definition of interface, function and usage of solid state disk are exactly the same as those of ordinary hard disk, and the appearance and size of solid state disk are basically the same as those of ordinary hard disk (the size and shape of solid state disk in the form of emerging U.2 M.2 is completely different from that of SATA mechanical hard disk).
It is widely used in military, vehicle, industrial control, video surveillance, network monitoring, network terminal, power, medical, aviation, navigation equipment and many other fields.
The operating temperature range of the chip is very wide, with commercial products (0,70 ℃) and industrial products (- 40,85 ℃). Although the cost is high, it is spreading to the DIY market.
Because the technology of solid-state hard disk is different from that of traditional hard disk, there are many new memory manufacturers. Manufacturers only need to buy NAND particles, coupled with appropriate control chips, write the main controller code, to make a solid-state hard drive.
The new generation of solid state disk generally adopts SATA-2 interface, SATA-3 interface, SAS interface, MSATA interface, PCI-E interface, M.2 interface, CFast interface, SFF-8639 interface and NVME/AHCI protocol.
What is a mechanical hard disk?
Mechanical hard disk is the traditional ordinary hard disk, which is mainly composed of: disk, magnetic head, disk shaft and control motor, magnetic head controller, data converter, interface, cache and so on.
The magnetic head can move along the radius of the disk, coupled with the high-speed rotation of thousands of revolutions per minute, the magnetic head can be positioned at the designated position of the disk for data reading and writing operations. The information is written to the disk by the electromagnetic current through the magnetic head close to the magnetic surface, and the polarity is changed by the electromagnetic current, and the information can be read in the opposite way. Hard disk as a precision equipment, dust is its archenemy, so the air entering the hard disk must be filtered.
All the disks in the mechanical hard disk are installed on a rotation axis, and each disk is parallel. There is a magnetic head on the storage surface of each disk. The distance between the magnetic head and the disk is only 0.1 μ m ~ 0.5 μ m. The higher level has reached 0.005 μ m ~ 0.01 μ m. All the magnetic heads are connected to a magnetic head controller, and the magnetic head controller is responsible for the movement of each magnetic head.
Comparison of advantages and disadvantages between mechanical hard disk and solid-state hard disk
1. Shock resistance: mechanical hard drives are disk-type, and the data is stored in the disk sector. The solid-state hard drive is made of flash memory particles (that is, memory, MP3, U disk and other storage media), so there are no mechanical parts inside the SSD solid-state disk, so that normal use will not be affected even in the case of high-speed movement or even accompanied by flip tilt, and the possibility of data loss can be minimized in the event of collision and shock. Compared with mechanical hard drives, hardening has an absolute advantage.
2, data storage speed: the speed of the mechanical hard disk is about 120MB, the speed of the solid-state disk of the SATA protocol is about 500MB, the speed of the solid-state disk of the SMagne NVMe protocol (PCIe 3.0 × 2) is about 1800MB, the speed of the solid-state disk of the SMagne NVMe protocol (PCIe 3.0 × 4) is about 3500MB/S.
3. Power consumption: the power consumption of solid state disk is also lower than that of mechanical hard disk.
Weight: solid state drives are lighter in weight, 20-30 grams lighter than conventional 1.8-inch hard drives.
5. Noise: because the hardening belongs to no mechanical parts and flash memory chip, it has the characteristics of low heat generation, fast heat dissipation, and no mechanical motor and fan.
