Preface
Due to the needs of my work, I often need to install the Windows operating system (desktop virtualization, you know), so I especially want a handy system installation image, which has the following features:
1. Integrate the latest patches so that I don't have to make a bunch of patches when I'm done, and sometimes I get blackmailed virus before the patches are finished.
2, integrate some commonly used software, because it involves copyright issues, I do not want to integrate those fee-based software, but free, easy-to-use and necessary small software such as potplayer, 7zip, and velvet security also save a lot of time.
3, some special processing, such as installing image integrated USB3.0 driver and NVME driver for Windows7, which is something we have to do.
So I gradually wanted to get a custom Windows installation image of my own, so I had this article.
One more word, in fact, this idea is the same as the idea of desktop virtualization that I am engaged in. The administrator makes a golden image and distributes it, so that users don't have to mess around.
Encapsulating your own mirror image is actually a big project. before you continue to read, you should be prepared psychologically. There are many tools involved, and there are many steps and matters needing attention. I try to write according to the idea of holding hands. But the content is too much, so you can collect it first, and then as a reference book, just turn it over when you need it.
What is customized in this article is the Windows7 Ultimate installation package. Much of the content written in this article comes from the integration of multiple articles online. I will try my best to indicate the source.
Principle and general steps
In the Win7 installation image, there are two files that are particularly large: the boot.wim and install.wim files located in the source directory. Wim is a disk compressed file defined by Microsoft, along with gho files defined by ghost and esd files with a higher compression ratio that began to appear during win8.1. In these two wim files are two systems, one is the PE (Pre-install Envirament pre-installed environment) system, and the other is the installed win7 system. The win7 installation process we see is actually the interface of the PE system.
If not strictly speaking, the installation process of win7 is to decompress and release install.wim to disk C in the PE system in boot.wim to form the final win7 system. Of course, this must be quite imprecise, but this explanation is more helpful for you to understand the following content.
So based on the above principles, you can see that our next operation is to revise the two wim files, especially the install.wim files, to achieve the ultimate goal, so this article is divided into the following 10 steps:
1. Install the system with a virtual machine (tool: Vmware Workstation)
2. Patch and install the software (patched with WU and provided with the software installation package)
3. Clean up with DISM++, clean with disk management, turn off virtual memory, hibernate, and compress space to a minimum (tool DISM++)
4, encapsulated with easysysprep (tool easysysprep)
5, start by PE to continue the encapsulation. (easyPE system, easysysprep), backed up to install.wim with EIX after encapsulation (included with PE system)
6. Edit the install.wim with imageX (included with DISM++) (display name), and then export to a new install.wim reduced volume (tool DISM++)
7, copy all the contents of the original installation CD to a flash drive (preferably NTFS) and replace it with the newly finished install.wim (NTFS format USB disk)
8, use gigabyte USB 3.0and NVME injection tools to inject drivers into the system in U disk (gigabyte driver injection tool)
9. Use the ISO generation tool in DISM++ to generate the contents of the U disk into the final ISO (tool DISM++)

Step 1: install the windows7 virtual machine
I will not elaborate on the process at this step. I will mainly talk about the points for attention:
1. When installing to the interface for entering the account password, do not continue, but press Ctrl+Shift+F3 to allow the virtual machine to enter the pre-packaged state. Once you enter this state, the virtual machine will enter this state after every restart, which is exactly what we want. All the rest of our system optimizations are carried out in the pre-packaged state. Don't be afraid, this state is no different from the ordinary installed win7.

2, make full use of the snapshot function of the virtual machine. It is definitely a good habit to take a snapshot after each change. On the one hand, you can avoid reinstallation caused by misoperation, on the other hand, when you still want to modify something in the future, it is undoubtedly the most labor-saving to start with the last correct configuration. Most importantly, the encapsulation system is irreversible, once it is sealed, it can only go into the unpacking process, but not in the pre-packaged environment, so it is very important to keep a snapshot before encapsulation. Anyway, snapshots don't take up much space, and the generation speed is only one second, so there's nothing wrong with taking a few more shots. The way is: turn off the virtual machine, then click the "virtual machine" button on the menu, and then click "Snapshot" and "Snapshot"
3. Establish a data channel between the virtual machine and the host: because we want to transfer the tool software to the virtual machine and the final backed up wim file, we must have this channel. People who know vmware will certainly say, "that's not easy. Why don't you just share files?" That is not possible, because file sharing needs to install vmware tools, but our pre-packaged environment cannot be installed, so we use another method: add a disk to the virtual machine, and map this disk to the host when you need to transfer data (at this time, the virtual machine must be completely shut down), so after we have saved the snapshot, do not rush to start the virtual machine again, first add a new disk Then map out, your host will have an extra z disk, and then put all the tools just mentioned in it. After putting it away, remember to disconnect the mapping, otherwise the virtual machine will not turn on.
4. The data has been transmitted, so you'd better not turn on the virtual machine at this time. We need to mount the ISO of PE first, and it will be convenient to use it later.
After all the above steps have been done, you can finally turn on the virtual machine again and start the second step
The second step, patch, optimize the system
About system optimization, slimming, I will not talk about it here, everyone has everyone's habit, just like you usually optimize the system, anyway, all the changes you make at this time is the last look of this ISO installed on the computer, so enjoy yourself.
A tip: don't put big software like office in it, or your image will be super big. I suggest pre-installing software in terms of browser, input method, basic security software, video player, and decompression software. Of course, you can also activate the system directly and do what you want.
Patching is the highlight of this link, the original purpose is to install the system without patching. This is the most reliable way to use your own windows update. It's a little slow, but it won't go wrong. So we can only wait for it to update slowly, especially the old win7, which needs to be updated with more than 200 patches. Take your time. It is important to note that windows patches are dependent, often when you update a batch and prompt it to be gone, and then restart again and again, so it is really annoying to update and restart repeatedly until there are no new patches.
The process of patching is constantly patching, restarting, checking, and patching.
When you finish patching, install all the software you want, restart it, and then clean it up.
The third step is to clean up and lose weight
Cleaning I most admire is DISM++ this tool, is definitely the deepest cleaning, I am used to open expert mode (need to restart the software to take effect), and then check all the options, start cleaning, generally speaking, after updating so many patches, super garbage, casually clean up a 6G space.
This is not over, continue to use the system's own disk cleaning tool, may also be able to clean up dozens of megabytes
Also, turn off hibernation, turn off virtual memory, delete instance pictures, music, videos, redundant input methods, help files, etc., in short, I can delete all of them, and finally my C disk space is controlled within 9G. This is also the space occupation of disk C after your installation image is installed.
Here I would like to talk about why you have to lose weight, because the final install.wim is compressed from this C disk. Generally, the compression ratio is about 60%. The compression ratio of 9G C disk is more than 4G. When you are more than 4G, you will encounter problems when you make and install U disk, because the installation of U disk is in FAT32 format, otherwise it cannot be booted, so this is where good intentions lie.
The fourth step, the first step of encapsulation
When the patch is finished, the software is installed, the garbage is cleaned up, and the weight loss is done, the optimization part of the system is over. At this time, it is best to turn off the computer and take another snapshot.
Start the virtual machine again, find the easysysprep software in the second disk, and run it

The last step is to confirm the encapsulation process and choose to shut down the computer after the encapsulation is completed. It should be noted that the virtual machine cannot be started directly after the encapsulation is completed, and the boot sequence must be modified to enter the PE. If you accidentally enter the system, you will enter the deployment state, so the encapsulation will fail (because the system has already been installed).
Select "turn off the computer" after the package is completed.
After completion, the virtual machine shuts down automatically, do not turn it on at this time, otherwise you will do it for nothing. Of course, you can take another snapshot at this time, and you can start here in case you make a mistake later.
Step 5, enter the PE system and continue to package.
Remember when we mounted PE's ISO just now? Now we need to use it.
Click the drop-down arrow next to the virtual machine boot button, select enter the BOOT system, enter the BIOS of the virtual machine, then set CDROM as the first startup item in the boot menu, then save and exit

Click the boot button of the virtual machine at this time, enter the CD to start, should note that this PE environment requires you to press any key in a few seconds, you do not press it directly into the win7, for nothing.
After entering the PE system, find the easyysyprep software located on the second disk (at this time the drive letter may be moved back one space), run it, and you will see that you have moved to the second step of the encapsulation.
Find EasySysprep and open it, and this time you should see the interface shown in the following figure. Then click start.
Phase two is on.
Then need to edit the OEM information, in order to be authentic, all the changes before the box are removed, do not fill in.

Then there is system optimization. If you want the system to keep its original appearance, I will not check all of them anyway. If checked, note that the last optimization is to set the browser home page, and you can uncheck it if you don't like it.

Then there are the deployment settings, which you can change here if you want to modify the generated computer name. If you plan to install multiple computers in bulk in the future, it is recommended that the computer name be random. If you plan to use your own computer, you can change it to a fixed computer name.

Then there is the driver setting, here I also choose not to check anything, which will unnecessarily increase the size of the wim file.
Just don't check anything.
There are two more steps in the middle, don't worry about anything and go straight to the next step.
The last step is to confirm that it is correct and begin. Select exit Program after completion

The second step is completed, the easysysprep software automatically exits, and we can generate the wim file. At this time, we are using the EIX software that comes with the PE system.

After confirmation, start the backup. Due to the poor IO performance of the virtual machine, this process may cause the hard disk to run at full load for a long time. Please wait patiently. The image generated after the installation is completed can be installed on the hard disk directly in the Youqitong PE by using the IEX system installation function.
The backup files are stored on the hard drive you just added.
The backed-up wim will be put on the second disk. This will take a while, just wait.
After the backup is completed, shut down the virtual machine, this phase of the virtual machine mission is over, but do not delete, will be used in the future.
After shutting down, map out the second disk of the virtual machine, and then copy the wim file inside. We have worked so hard for it for a long time.
Step 6, edit the wim file
The wim file you just backed up needs to be edited, and the tool used is imagex in DISM++.
Find imageX.
Edit the information, export, this export is saved as, there is a certain chance to reduce the volume of WIM oh.
Select the image and click Edit
The content here can be edited. Generally, only the name and description are changed.
After editing, export the image (that is, save as). At this point, you can directly change the name to install.wim. Note that the size of the final wim file may generally exceed that of 4GB.
Step 7, copy the entire installation environment to the USB disk
1. Copy all the contents of the ISO of the original Windows7 Ultimate to the root directory of the U disk, which you can unzip and copy, or you can mount the ISO and copy it.
2. Copy the install.wim file you just made to the sources folder in the root directory of the U drive and replace the file with the same name.
Step 8, perform USB3.0 and NVME driver injection

2. Choose according to the red and blue box above, and the blue box below is the flash drive you just made. Click start and wait for completion (complete).
This driver injection operation will modify dozens of files, including boot.wim,install.wim.
Step 9, generate the final ISO
After the driver injection in the previous step, all the contents of the installation disk are ready. The last step is to generate the ISO file. We still use the ISO generation tool in DISM++.

Open the ISO generator. The first line selects your U root directory, such as F:\, the second line selects your ISO storage location and name, and the third line writes some description.
The first line points directly to your U disk root directory.
Then click OK, and your own Win7 installation ISO is born.
Postscript
The above production process seems tedious, but in fact, it will be very fast if you are proficient. Why be proficient? Because all kinds of software and patches will be constantly updated, so you may need to constantly maintain your installation disk. Remember the snapshot that we always said before? if you need to update your installation CD, go back to the last snapshot. Start there and go to the last step.
