In general, the storage of the cluster should be planned, otherwise it will be easy to cheat yourself later. At present, there are about the following types of storage:

First, SAN: storage area network, divided into FC-san and IP-san.

Fc-san is all fc devices, FC switch + HBA card + fiber cable (some low-end FC storage, such as HP2040, will not support volume expansion after snapshots, so pay special attention to this pit)

IP-san is to take the RJ45 network cable, Ethernet switch + Ethernet card + ordinary network cable, encapsulation is iSCSI

Second, even if there is an operating system in the storage, it is also an Ethernet network.

Third, straight-line storage, directly connected to the server's motherboard through the data line.

Clusters have hyper-v,vere,xenserver,kvm and so on.

Expansion sequence:

1. Pool: build multiple raid to expand the same pool

2. Volume lun: connect the size of the expansion volume. It is recommended to expand the volume as much as you need. Do not allocate it at one time, otherwise you will not get it back if you give it out. Once the volume name is taken, it cannot be renamed, otherwise it will be remapped!

3. Host disk -: disk management directly extends dynamic partitions (as many points as recommended).

4. Virtual machine disk: extend a single dynamic virtual machine disk.

5. Virtual machine disk partition: extended disk partition

Case study:

1. Your volume 2TB (that is, the host disk partition 2TB). It is recommended that you assign the disk 2TB to the virtual machine, which can also be smaller than 2TB. Later, expand the capacity of the disk by expanding the disk by the virtual machine-settings-disk-expansion (provided that the disk has not been snapped).

2. When setting up virtual machine disk partition, do not give it to 2TB, you can give it to 500GB, and the remaining 1500g is unallocated. When the disk is not enough later, you can expand it, otherwise you will give it greater than 2TB at one time, and if the amount of data is greater than 2TB one day, it will be a tragedy that the virtual machine cannot boot.

3. Virtual machine disk partitioning: disk management directly extends partitions. It is recommended to use gpt simple volumes (do not use cross-zone volumes, otherwise it is difficult to recover disk space later), and it is also convenient to expand partitions later.
