The polling scheduling algorithm in Radware takes into account the processing capacity of each server. In practice, due to the configuration of each server, the installation of business applications and other different, its processing capacity will be different. Therefore, we should assign different weights to each server according to the different processing capacity of the server, so that it can accept service requests with corresponding weight values to balance the pressure.

Actual scenario: two WEB application servers (IBM X3650 M3) with different memory and CPU configurations, one with 8GB of memory and the other with 16GB of memory. In load balancer, set two WEB applications to a FARM group and set an VIP address. In LoadRunner, do 400 concurrent uplink pressure tests on the VIP virtual addresses of two applications.

Phenomenon: it is found that the pressure on the two WEB application servers is uneven. The server with lower 8G memory configuration bears higher pressure, while the server with better 16G memory configuration bears lower pressure.

Demand: we need to adjust the server with lower 8G memory configuration to bear lower pressure and the server with better 16GB memory configuration to bear higher pressure.

Load balancing adjustment process:

1. Adjust the load balancing algorithm

Enter AppDirector > Farms > Farm Table, and adjust the load balancing algorithm to Weighted Cyclic (polling by weight)

Note: Aging Time: 60, the aging time of the user session table (in seconds). The longer the session, the longer the session lasts.

If you set the value of Aging Time to a high value, such as 1000 seconds, even if you set the load balancing algorithm to polling, you will find that the pressure on another host is less. Because the new session tables are kept on one host, it takes 1000 seconds to age.

2. Adjust the weight ratio of the corresponding hosts

Go to AppDirector > Server > Application Server > Table

Note: the default weight ratio is 1, which means that the two servers are equal at 1:1. We set the weight of the server with the lower 8G memory configuration to 1 and the server with the higher 16G memory configuration to 2, that is, the 1:2 ratio. It means that one server shares twice as many requests as the other server.

3. Observation after adjustment

Through the TOP command, it is found that the CPU utilization and disk read and write rates of the two WEB servers are basically the same, and the CPU utilization is about 60%, which is almost double the difference before.

Go to Performance-> Servers-> Application Server Statistics to view the server TCP connection statistics, which is also more balanced.
