What this article shares to you is about the operation method of installing xp system with USB disk. The editor thinks it is very practical, so I share it with you to learn. I hope you can get something after reading this article.

In an age when laptops have long been popular in conference rooms, business people use laptops to demonstrate PPT and make electronic minutes of meetings; in an age when laptops have spread to classrooms, students are even using notebooks to flip through materials for open-book exams.

As laptops are becoming an indispensable part of people's lives, a new problem arises. The blind pursuit of performance-to-price ratio leads to the unbridled weight of the fuselage pressing down on people's shoulders, that is, the "pole effect". People with common sense of notebooks all know that cost performance and portability are propositions and cons in the notebook field, and they are always opposed to each other and can not live in harmony, even if the country is trying to promote a harmonious society.

Many users who have a demand for mobility are suffering from the side effect of the "pole effect" while eating the cost-effective benefits of the first laptop. So they began to choose a second machine that exists only for portability, and most of these machines have a feature, that is, no optical drive design! In the market, notebooks without optical drives are usually the representatives of portable machines, their weight is very light, but their performance is not careless, although the price is high, they still get a lot of can not stand the "pole effect". Favored by laptop users who pursue mobility.

The author has a lot of friends in the use of notebooks without optical drive, but the problem also comes, when the need to reinstall the system, there is no optical drive, what should I do? You might say you can install it on a hard drive under dos, but how many people can use dos?

In fact, not only notebook users who do not have a CD-ROM drive worry about how to install the system, but also desktop users who do not have an optical drive. In order to provide convenience for this kind of users, the author will explain how to install the operating system conveniently and quickly without a CD-ROM drive.

Preparation of ● before installing system

A flash drive that can start the computer and a CD image of a system

There are some things that need to be prepared before installing the system. One is a mirror of the operating system, and the other is a bootable flash drive. Let's explain how to install the deepin version of the XP system.

Note: to understand this article, you need to know some basic knowledge of installing the operating system.

First of all, ● is to make a boot USB drive with WindowsPE that can start the computer.

First go to the Internet to download a tool called "Old Maomao WinPE" to the hard drive, then connect the U disk to the computer, and then follow the steps below to make a bootable U disk step by step.

Select item 4, and then enter

Enter the drive letter of the flash drive and enter

When it comes to the formatting step, press the default setting and click "start".

Smooth formatting

Guide part

To explain here, there are two options in the "device", one is the computer's hard drive, and the other is the USB disk to be made. Here, you must choose the right USB disk instead of the wrong hard disk. You can tell which one is the USB disk by its size. The author's USB disk is 2G, so we should choose (hd1) [1898m]. The "options" section below can be ignored, and no parameters are checked by default. After confirming the above steps, click install and proceed to the next step.

Write boot completed, press any key to continue

You need to set a password to start the flash drive.

Originally, the author did not want to set the password to start the U disk, but this step can not be skipped, so I have no choice but to set a password. After setting up, be sure to keep in mind the password you set, otherwise the boot USB drive will not work.

Finished production

When you have completed the above steps, congratulations, a flash drive with startup function has come to you. You don't have to worry anymore that you can't boot from the CD-ROM drive without a CD-ROM drive, because you can boot from the flash drive and install the operating system later! Want to know how to do it? It starts on the next page.

● sets the first startup item of the computer to USB device startup

In the past, when we installed the system on CD-ROM, we had to adjust the boot item to CD-ROM drive, but now we want to install the system on U disk, so we have to adjust it to U disk to start. With regard to this, different versions of bios on different computers have different settings, but they are more or less the same. The purpose is to change the first startup item of the computer into a USB disk. Let's give some examples of different bios adjustment methods.

For the most common bios option for Phoenix-Award, select USB-HDD.

Bios adjustment options for dell brand machines

BIOS of ThinkPad Series Notebook

BIOS of Hewlett-Packard Business Notebook

You can see that the above bios options are all different, but the adjustment options are all for the same purpose: to set the startup item of the computer to boot from the USB device, so that you can boot the computer from the USB disk.

● installs XP with a bootable flash drive

First connect the USB flash drive with startup function to the computer

Start the computer

After starting the computer, you will be asked to enter the password to start the flash drive, which is the password you set when you made the boot flash drive. When you enter the correct password, you will see a selection menu and choose "WinPE By:MAOTAO".

Enter WinPE

Then we will enter a mini operating system WinPE that runs on a flash drive (not on the computer's hard drive), which has many functions similar to XP, with which we can do whatever we want with the computer.

Disk C can be formatted

How do you do whatever you want? It's shocking enough to be able to format C disk directly. Let's format disk C before installing the new XP.

After formatting the C disk in the computer with the WinPE on the USB disk, please come out the virtual CD-ROM drive to help.

The WinPE running on the flash drive comes with a virtual optical drive.

Load an image of a XP CD

We chose a deepin ghost version of the CD image, made by the famous "8 minutes Express version 6.5" CD. If there is a CD-ROM drive, just put the "8-minute Express version 6.5" CD into the CD-ROM drive and install it directly, but since there is no CD-ROM drive, it took us some trouble to install this system.

After loading the system image with a virtual optical drive, there will be an extra drive.

We can see that after loading the system image with the virtual optical drive, the drive letter of GHOSTXP-6.5NTFS has been added to the "my computer" directory. This is where the system we are going to install is located.

Start Ghost for WinPe

Then we started another software that comes with WinPE, Norton Ghost. Use it to restore the ghost image of the system to disk C of the computer that was previously formatted.

It is no different from the usual steps of using GHOST.

After starting GHOST, you can use it in the same way as you would normally use GHOST to restore the system. First select From Image, then find the CD directory loaded by the virtual optical drive, select GHOSTXP.GHO, then select the hard drive you want to restore to, and then select the partition you want to restore to.

Just click on YES and wait for it to recover.

After all the previous selections have been made, a dialog box will pop up to ask you if you want to restore the specified GHO image to your computer's C drive. Just click yes.

Reboot into the system, reinstall completed

When the GHOST image is restored, you can restart to enter the system. At this point, install the operating system with a flash drive. You can forget that you can't install the operating system without a CD-ROM drive.

It is worth mentioning that because the whole process is to read data on the hard disk, the installation speed is much faster than that of CD-ROM installation.

In fact, this is only one of the ways to install the system with a flash drive, there are many other ways to install the system, this article will not give examples one by one. Perhaps you have carefully found that with this boot flash drive, you no longer have to fear that after the system crashes, the important data will be saved in C disk, because as long as you start WinPE with USB disk, you can go in and back up the important data to other partitions. It is hoped that netizens can follow this example and flexibly use WinPE, a very useful tool installed on USB drives.

The above is the operation method of installing xp system with USB disk. The editor believes that there are some knowledge points that we may see or use in our daily work. I hope you can learn more from this article. For more details, please follow the industry information channel.
