Write down your understanding of WLAN devices here.

Basic equipment:

802.11 wireless chip

Many of the 802.11 wireless chip manufacturers are well-known companies, such as Intel, Broadcom and Qualcomm.

Wireless network card: many manufacturers will buy the network card produced by the chip manufacturer. Such a centerless Nic will have a variety of different interfaces, such as PCIe,PCMCIA,USB, etc.

Access Point (AP)

The access point, Access Point (AP), is a WLAN device that sends and receives data in a half-duplex manner.

Client (STA)

Client, English Station Client (STA), STA must compete with AP for the right to use half-duplex RF media.

How wireless access points work:

1. Root mode: the default configuration mode of the access point, which is used as the entry device to access the distribution system and transmits data between the distribution system and 802.11 wireless media.

2. Bridge mode: bridge mode, in which the access point has a certain MAC layer function, which can learn and maintain the MAC address of the wired end of the network.

3. Repeater mode: repeater mode, the access point acts as the repeater access point of the 802.11 wireless network.

4. Mesh network: the access point works as a node of the mesh network (mesh network).

5.scan mode: scan mode, access point converted to 802.11 network probe

Mode of operation of wireless clients:

1. Infrastructure mode: infrastructure mode, the default working mode of the client, in which the client must communicate with other devices through the access point.

2. Ad-hoc mode: point-to-point mode in which all data transfers and frame exchanges between all clients are peer-to-peer. This is a peer-to-peer mode, also known as peer-to-peer mode, where clients do not have to communicate with other devices through a wireless access point.

SSID: the Service set Identifier (Service SetIDentifier) is a logical name that identifies a 802.11 wireless network, consists of up to 32 characters, is case sensitive, and can be configured in all access points and clients.

BSS: basic Service set (BasicService Set) is the basic topology of 802.11 wireless networks. The communication device constituting the BSS includes at least one access point and one client.

BSSID: the basic service set identifier (Basic Service Set Identifier) is the 48-bit (6-byte) MAC address of the access point wireless network card, or the MAC address of the AP wireless network card.

ESS: an extended service set (Extended Service Set) consists of one or more BSS, and the BSS are connected by distributed system media.

IBSS: an independent basic service set (IndependentBasic Service Set) consists of at least two clients that communicate with each other in a point-to-point (adhoc) manner.

MBSS:Mesh basic Service set (Mesh Basic Service Set) one or more Mesh AP are connected to the wired infrastructure (called Mesh Root, Mesh portal, or Mesh Gate), and other Mesh AP establish wireless backhaul links to connect to the wired network. Transmission and forwarding between nodes in the Mesh network is based on MAC address forwarding, not IP address.
