How to carry out Filecoin sector problem analysis, many novices are not very clear about this, in order to help you solve this problem, the following editor will explain for you in detail, people with this need can come to learn, I hope you can gain something.
With the loss of sectors in a small part of the miners in the Filecoin network, the miners in the community pay more attention to this situation, so the discussion on the sectors in the Filecoin network is also more heated. Today, we also discuss several small issues related to the Filecoin sector.
What is a sector?
Before we talk about sectors, we need to understand what sectors are. Sector is the most basic storage unit in Filecoin network. According to the definition of sector in the earlier official white paper "creating Filecoin economy", sector is the basic unit of storage on Filecoin, with standard size and clear commitment time limit, similar to containers in global freight transportation to provide digital storage services. The size of the sector balances security and availability. The life cycle of the sector is determined by the storage market and the promised duration of the sector is specified. "
So what do you mean by sector failure? The data is originally encapsulated in the sector. when the data in the sector disappears, then the sector is invalid, and the computing power representing the sector disappears when it is corresponding to the node.
When it comes to sectors, generally speaking, sectors have a corresponding time, and officials have made some settings on the life cycle of sectors in order to improve the performance of the network. The longest sector life cycle is determined by the proof algorithm. Initially, the longest sector life cycle is 18 months, that is, 540 days, and the shortest time is 6 months, that is, 180 days. This is to make more efficient use of the effective bandwidth of the chain.
What if the sector expires?
Now that the sector has a life cycle, there must be a problem: what if the sector expires?
The disappearance of the sector means the disappearance of computing power, which means that miners receive fewer block rewards and lower income. So for miners, they must want the sector life cycle to be as long as possible, so why would some miners set the life cycle to 180 days? The expiration of the sector means that the previously pledged coins will be returned to the miner node at one time, and the miner will have more FIL.
Another reason is that the price of FIL is constantly fluctuating, and the short life cycle of the sector means that miners have the flexibility to control the pledged FIL, and miners can sell at the higher price of FIL, thus making the most profit.
However, from an economic point of view, because of the current high cost of encapsulating per T of computing power, it seems more cost-effective to maintain the original computing power to get block rewards.
Since the sector has a life cycle, can the sector be renewed when it expires?
The answer is that on November 24, 2020 (November 24, UTC time, November 25, Beijing time), the sector encapsulated, that is, the V1 sector, is not renewable. Sectors packaged after November 28, known as V1.1, can be renewed.
Why this is the time node on November 24th, because Lotus was upgraded to v1.2.0 on November 24th, so it must be upgraded before version 265200. Part of the Bug has been fixed during this upgrade. According to the official statement, all sectors cannot be renewed until the sectors are fixed, but the repaired sectors can be upgraded. Miners only need to send the ExtendSectorExpiration to the network for renewal.
What about sectors that could not be renewed before?
Because the sector before November 24 cannot be renewed, the miners' computing power is bound to fall sharply when the life cycle of the sector expires, which is also a huge loss for miners; and repackaging computing power will also consume additional Gas fees. Therefore, officials are considering the planning of renewal of this sector in order to improve the use of network resources.
