This article to share with you is about how to install Linux system on Apple computer, Xiaobian think it is very practical, so share it for everyone to learn, I hope you can gain something after reading this article, not much to say, follow Xiaobian to see it.

The first step in learning Linux is installing Linux, but how do you install Linux on a Mac?

1. Overview

With a bootable Linux USB stick, you can:

Install or upgrade Linux, even on a Mac Test the Linux desktop experience without touching Mac configuration Boot to Linux on a borrowed machine or Internet cafe Use the tools installed by default on a USB stick to fix or repair broken configurations Creating a bootable USB stick is very simple, especially if you are using USB sticks for general Windows or Linux PCs. We will describe this process in the next few steps.

Apple hardware considerations

There are a few other considerations when booting a USB stick on Apple hardware. This is because Apple's Startup Manager is summoned by holding down the Option / alt () key at startup, and the USB drive will not be detected without a specific partition table and layout. We will cover this in a later step.

2. Requirements

You will need:

A Linux ISO file on a 2GB or larger USB/flash drive on an Apple computer or laptop running macOS. 3. Prepare U disk

To ensure maximum compatibility with Apple hardware, we will first blank and reformat the USB drive using Apple's Disk Utility. However, if you intend to use USB sticks only with general purpose PC hardware, you can skip this step.

Search from Applications> Utilities or Spotlight Launch Disk Utility Insert USB drive, observe new devices added to Disk Utility Select USB drive devices (you may need to enable Options View> Show All Devices) and Erase Select from the toolbar (or right-click menu) Format to MS-DOS (FAT) and Scheme GUID Partition Map Check that you have selected the correct device and click Erase

Install and run Etcher

To write ISO files to USB drives, we will use a free open source application called Etcher. After downloading and clicking to install the package, Etcher can be run in-place or dragged into the Applications folder.

By default, the latest version of macOS prevents applications from running from unrecognized developers. To resolve this issue, enable App Store and identify developers in the Security and Privacy pane of System Preferences. If you are still warned not to run the application, click Open Still in the same pane.

5. Etching machine configuration

Etcher will configure and write to your USB device in three stages, each one selected in turn:

Selecting an image opens a file requester from which the requester should navigate to and select a previously downloaded ISO file. By default, ISO files are located in the Downloads folder. Select the drive and replace it with the name of the USB device (if connected) to select the target device. If the storage space is too small for the ISO you selected, you will receive a warning. Flash! Activates when images and drives are selected. Like disk tools, Etcher requires low-level access to storage hardware and asks for your password after selection. 6. Write device

After entering the password, Etcher will begin writing ISO files to the USB device.

The Flash phase of the process will show progress, write speed and estimated duration until completion. Next comes the verification phase, which ensures that the contents of the USB device are identical to the source image.

When everything is complete, Etcher will declare the process successful.

Congratulations! You now have Linux installed on the USB stick, ready to boot and ready to go.

7 Start your Mac.

If you want to use your USB stick with Apple Mac, you need to insert the USB stick to restart or power on Mac while the Option/alt*()* key is pressed.

This will launch Apple's Startup Manager, showing bootable devices connected to the machine. Your USB drive should be gold/yellow and labeled "EFI Boot." Selecting this option will take you to the standard Linux startup menu.
