Why should IP be allocated reasonably?

For small monitoring projects, the setting of ip is relatively simple, and most people will not make mistakes. For monitoring projects with more than 254points, they are somewhat error-prone.

Why is that?

First, if more than 254points are not divided into network segments, and the system is allowed to assign ip automatically, it is easy to produce ip conflicts.

Second, if the network segment is divided, the allocation in ip and the setting of subnet mask become a problem. Some friends are not familiar with ip assignment and are prone to errors.

So what should I do? Dividing network segments is a reasonable way.

How do large networks allocate ip?

For the monitoring of more than 254points, although we can assign ip without dividing the network segment, a good network planning is not only a simple and barely implemented function, but also needs to pay more attention to the later maintenance and the clarity and expansibility of the whole network.

Let's take an example to see how to allocate ip.

The monitoring project of a factory area is divided into four areas with a total of 300points, all the equipment is in an internal network, the main trunk is connected by optical cable, there are two areas with 70 points each, and the other two differences are 80 points each, how to set their ip.

The distribution is shown in the following figure:

First of all, let's analyze that there are two ways to realize the monitoring of these 300 points:

Vlan is not divided, but all are arranged in a large network segment.

The first is not to divide the vlan, but all use layer 2 switches. The direct ip can be set to an IP range of 192.168.0.1-192.168.1.254, with a subnet mask of 255.255.254.0. A total of 500 ip can be used, all of which can be accommodated in a large network segment.

This large network segment includes two ip segments:

192.168.0.1-192.168.0.254 its subnet mask is 255.255.254.0.

192.168.1.1-192.168.1.254, whose subnet mask is 255.255.254.0.

There are 508 ip in total, which is enough.

Some friends may wonder, how did you get the subnet mask 255.255.254.0, and why not 255.255.255.0?

Subnet mask calculation:

The IP ranges from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.254. Why is the subnet mask of this network segment 255.255.254.0?

This ip range includes two ip segments.

The first ip segment is 192.168.0.1-192.168.0.254 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0.

The second ip segment is 192.168.1.1-192.168.1.254 with a subnet mask of 255.255.254.0.

Generally speaking, their common subnet mask is 255.255.254.0.

Many small and medium-sized monitoring projects are intranets, which do not need to be divided into vlan in many cases, which can save resources, but in order to prevent network storm, port isolation can be used to ensure the security of the network.

Partition vlan

For large-scale monitoring, dividing vlan is the preferred way.

Here we focus on the way to divide the network segment, using the switch can be directly divided into four network segments.

Main monitoring address: 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0

Area An address: 192.168.1.2 ~ 192.168.1.254 Mask 255.255.255.0 Gateway 192.168.1.1

Area B address: 192.168.2.1 ~ 192.168.2.254 Mask 255.255.255.0 Gateway 192.168.1.1

Area C address: 192.168.3.1 ~ 192.168.3.254 Mask 255.255.255.0 Gateway 192.168.1.1

Area D address: 192.168.4.1 ~ 192.168.4.254 Mask 255.255.255.0 Gateway 192.168.1.1

Each network segment can hold more than 250points, and a total of 1000 ip of the four network segments can be used, which is sufficient to allocate the ip of each area.

In addition, if there is an increase in the number of points in each subsequent area, there are enough reservations. It is worth noting that the access layer switch needs reasonable allocation and the choice of access layer switch.

So what are the benefits of dividing the network segment in this way?

The ip in the four regions is more obvious. If there is a problem with that camera, you can quickly locate the problem with that camera through batch ping ip. At the same time, it can also effectively prevent ip conflicts. Ip is a high-frequency problem in network failures, and it can also reduce broadcast storms.
