Apple driverless car, the latest two new patents have been approved.

In the latest grant from the United States Patent and Trademark Office, 53 new patents submitted by Apple have been approved.

Among them, two projects for the design of unmanned vehicles, Project Titan, are listed, both of which were submitted at the end of 2016.

Patent 1: vehicle stability control system

The patent mainly solves the problem of vehicle stability on "unsafe" roads, determines the steering direction by measuring the steering wheel angle, and estimates the expected course of the vehicle based on lateral acceleration, yaw, wheel speed, and the stability of the vehicle.

In the case of loss of stability, the system can apply braking or request propulsion torque to a single wheel according to the situation.

The vehicle has an internal reference model for determining the state of the expected vehicle response.

The state can be determined by measuring the sensors around the vehicle, where the "stability determination module" identifies the reference deviation between the measurement state and the model.

The same stability control system can also feed data to the vehicle motion control system to optimally brake the wheels based on the desired turn or motion.

In the whole turning process, the stability module can monitor the deviation of the plan command and compensate accordingly.

It is worth noting that this stability control system is tested for both self-driving and human-driven vehicles.

It can be used in scenes that affect vehicle acceleration, braking or turning, such as wind and rain, gravel or soil on the road, or even uneven terrain when off-road.

Patent 2: adaptive positioning of car doors

The core of the patent description is how to add sliding doors to the vehicle.

In the example, Apple shows a newly designed car with the same front and left doors, but there is no central gatepost between the door and the door.

Apple's patented technology, combined with sensors and passenger positioning, provides an adaptive way to open the door. It will also be combined with the surrounding environment to avoid opening the door in situations such as cars.
