Shulou(Shulou.com)06/01 Report--
Today, I will talk to you about how to update the firmware in Ubuntu18.04. Many people may not know much about it. In order to make you understand better, the editor has summarized the following content for you. I hope you can get something according to this article.
Typically, the default software centers in Ubuntu and other Linux handle system firmware updates. But if you encounter an error, you can use the fwupd command line tool to update the firmware of the system.
I use the Dell XPS 13 Ubuntu version as my main operating system. I have newly installed Ubuntu 18.04, and I am satisfied with the hardware compatibility. Bluetooth, external USB headphones and speakers, multiple monitors, everything is ready to use out of the box.
One of the things that bothers me is a firmware update in the software center.

An error occurs after a few seconds when you click the Update button.

How to update firmware in Ubuntu
One thing you should know is that GNOME Software (the software center in Ubuntu 18.04) can also update firmware. But if you fail for some reason, you can use the command line tool fwupd.
Fwupd is an open source daemon that handles firmware upgrades in Linux-based systems. It was created by GNOME developer Richard Hughes. Dell developers have also contributed to the development of this open source tool.
Basically, it uses LVFS, the Linux vendor firmware service Linux Vendor Firmware Service. Hardware vendors upload redistributable firmware to the LVFS site, and thanks to fwupd, you can upgrade these firmware from within the operating system. Fwupd is supported by major Linux distributions such as Ubuntu and Fedora.
First open the terminal and update the system:
Sudo apt update & & sudo apt upgrade-y
After that, you can use the following commands to start the daemon, refresh the list of available firmware updates, and install firmware updates.
Sudo service fwupd start
After the daemon runs, check to see if firmware updates are available.
Sudo fwupdmgr refresh
The output should look like this:
Fetching metadata https://cdn.fwupd.org/downloads/firmware.xml.gzDownloading... [*] Fetching signature https://cdn.fwupd.org/downloads/firmware.xml.gz.asc
After that, run the firmware update:
Sudo fwupdmgr update
The output of firmware updates may be similar to this:
