At the launch of Mate X in China, Huawei announced its successor: Mate Xs. Although the company's first foldable smartphone was unveiled to the media on MWC earlier this year, it has just entered the market. This is our understanding of the follow-up action in 2020.

Huawei Club's Twitter account shared photos of the Mate-X event and revealed some details of Mate Xs. The company's second foldable phone is scheduled to be launched in March 2020-just months after the first one. On the other hand, it also mentions one of the hardware highlights of the new foldable device: Kirin 9905G. We saw the debut of the next generation of Huawei processors on IFA 2019 in September. This is a revolutionary SoC with 5G support, more powerful NPU, and overclocked Cortex A76 and A55 kernels.

Little is known about further upgrades. The Mate Xs may be equipped with a 40 million-pixel ultra-wide-angle camera from Mate 30 Pro. At least in the snapshot below, we can see that the design of the new Mate X looks almost the same as that of Mate X.

Of course, a prototype version of Mate Xs is likely to be released in March, and the actual sales version will be released later. That was the first first mate X. We started using Mate X in February, but it won't be launched in China until November 15th. The version with 512GB storage and 8GB memory costs 16999 yuan, or about $2400.

There are still many questions about Huawei's future, and there is no specific information about the firmware of Mate X or Mate Xs. However, Leica will become a camera partner in 2020.

We have to wait and see what happens to the Mate Xs, but even with the transition to foldable devices, smartphone makers don't seem to be slowing down in the rapid release of smartphone models.
