If you keep following AMD's AGESA version, things will obviously get more confusing. According to a report on HardwareLuxx, the latest version we know of is combo M4 1.0.0.5, but a later version seems to be on the B550 platform, called combo M4 v2 1. 0.0.0.

If you look closely, you'll see the v2 symbol in the name and reset the counter. The reset of AGESA version count may have a purpose, but we're not sure what that might be.

AGESA is part of the microcode in the motherboard BIOS-AMD provides bits that determine which CPUs are supported and which features work correctly. They also provide stability and performance fixes from time to time.

The B550 is still in the AM4 slot, and there is some controversy about support for this chipset, while older chipsets have supported CPUs in the past and in the future.

Perhaps resetting counters is AMD's easiest way to communicate which version users should install to get the correct CPU support. A V1 or V2 is easier to communicate than a three-point four-digit number. Naming can also be simply platform-dependent, starting with v2 1.0.0.0 for the B550 and ending with 1.0.0.6 for the X570.

The AMD B550 motherboard (which should ship with the new AGESA) is expected to be available in June. User Reous on Luxx shows that MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk will be equipped with combo M4 v2 1. 0.0.0 The gigabyte B550 Aorus Master will be equipped with combo M4 v2 1 . 0 . 0 . 0。

Confused? Ultimately, it doesn't matter what the next AGESA is called as long as your best motherboard vendor comes out. Be sure to consult support information to ensure that you have the correct AGESA installed for your CPU.
