Shulou(Shulou.com)05/31 Report--
This article mainly introduces "how to install Ubuntu 8.04.1 into the mobile hard disk". In the daily operation, I believe that many people have doubts about how to install Ubuntu 8.04.1 into the mobile hard disk. Xiaobian consulted all kinds of materials and sorted out simple and easy-to-use methods of operation. I hope it will be helpful to answer the doubts of "how to install Ubuntu 8.04.1 into the mobile hard disk". Next, please follow the editor to study!
Install Ubuntu 8.04.1 into a removable hard drive
Download ubuntu-8.04.1-desktop-i386.iso.
Extract the ubuntu-8.04.1-desktop-i386.iso to the root directory of a fat32 partition (on my computer, the ntfs partition is also successful, but after all, ntfs is a Microsoft private file system, so it is not recommended). Make sure there are no menu.lst files in the root directory of each partition (rename or delete if any), otherwise it may affect the startup of Ubuntu 8.04.1-this is a small bug that wubi needs to improve.
Double-click to run umenu.exe, select demo and full installation, select to help me boot from CD, click finish, set up the CD initiator, click next, the startup file will be automatically configured, restart as prompted, when the system selection menu appears, select Ubuntu 8.04.1, you can enter the live cd system.
If it cannot start normally, press the esc key when "Press `ESC' to enter the menu" appears in the upper left corner of the screen to enter the startup menu (it may be garbled at this time, it is a small bug, don't worry), and choose the second or third or fourth item to try.
After entering the live cd system, connect the removable hard drive, double-click the installation on the desktop, and follow the prompts (please refer to this post viewtopic.php?t=115542). Choose to move the hard drive when partitioning. Be careful!
1. Do not partition / boot separately.
two。 According to liangqian's experience, "Ubuntu 8.04.1 should be installed at the front of the removable hard drive, so that machines with boot length limits can still start smoothly." For details, see the 778-782 floor.
3. When you go to the "prepare for installation" interface, click the "Advanced" button at the lower right, and the "Advanced options" dialog box appears to uncheck the box before "install the boot loader". This is taking into account that many people are not familiar with grub, in case of operational errors, may not even be able to enter the windows, causing great harm to young hearts, but it is a sin.
After the installation is completed, you will be asked if you want to restart. Do not restart at this time, open the root partition of the newly installed system, and open / etc/fstab. The content is similar to the following.
# / etc/fstab: static file system information.
Proc / proc proc defaults 0 0
# / dev/sdc5
UUID=30b754f9-4be7-4e13-9776-8177b71bdfaa / reiserfs notail,relatime 0 1
# / dev/sdc6
UUID=ca7e22d7-c8b7-4ca4-8e4f-a7c038917e0e none swap sw 0 0
/ dev/scd0 / media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto,exec,utf8 0 0
Notice the red part, 30b754f9-4be7-4e13-9776-8177b71bdfaa is the UUID of the root partition, sdc5 indicates that the root partition is partition 5, write down this information, which will be used later.
Other installation methods (for reference):
Borrow a virtual machine and install it on a physical hard disk: viewtopic.php?t=121329
Install Ubuntu 8.04.1 to the internal hard drive (you can remove the mobile hard disk core and hang it on the desktop through the adapter as the internal hard drive), pay attention to install grub, and then remove the built-in hard drive to make a removable hard drive. This allows you to skip step 2 and proceed directly to step 3.
Engraving disk, remove the built-in hard disk, only connect the mobile hard disk and the CD-ROM drive, use the CD to install the system directly to the removable hard disk, pay attention to install grub. In this way, you can skip the second step and proceed to the third step.
Copy the installed and configured system to the removable hard drive. * start another linux (such as various LIVE CD) to copy the target system, which can avoid a lot of trouble. Command example: sudo cp-a / mnt/hda7/* / mnt/sda6/
