Install and test DNS services

Since the DNS service has been installed with Active Directory, you can directly select "start"-"Administrative tools"-"DNS" to open the DNS Manager to configure and manage the DNS server.

If you need to install DNS services separately, you can add the DNS Services role in Server Manager. The installation process is relatively simple.

After the DNS server is installed, you can test whether it is working properly.

Open the DNS property settings in the DNS Manager, and you can test simple and recursive queries in the Monitor tab, as shown in the following figure:

A simple query refers to domain name resolution due to the current DNS server.

Recursive query means that the current DNS server cannot complete the domain name resolution request and needs to request from other servers. So to test a recursive query, you must first make sure that the server is connected to the Internet.
